Treadmill yes, scale no (Christy)

Hey all!

Just checking in from a long weekend of massive unpacking and hurricane prep.  We still don’t have a scale.  Or more than one pan to cook with.  Our unpacking was seriously slowed down by the fact that my mom bought my kids a swingset that has taken a day and a half to put together and still isn’t finished.

But we now have a treadmill!  I found one from proform that had good ratings with both Consumer Reports and Treadmilldoctor.com, and it is on closeout!  See it here if you’re interested.  It’s strong enough that my dh won’t burn out the motor the first time he uses it.

Have I ever mentioned that my husband is a really fast runner?  The man is always the first one done on the Navy’s physical readiness tests.  He’s actually going to try and gain weight while he’s deployed.

I’m only a little bitter about that.

Anyway, I’m hoping to start C25K next week (I did it a couple years ago) and maybe I’ll have a scale and more than one pan by then.

Have a great long weekend for those in the States!

The Doctor is driving me Crazy (Kellie)

Ok so as many already know I have Graves Disease which is a disease of the thyroid.  Since I have begun my weight loss my levels have been way off.  Too high, too low.  It is driving me crazy.  For the past 8 weeks I have been a new dose which I kept saying was way to LOW  I have had little to no weight loss and have felt as if I were walking through syrup most days.  Really dragging.  Of course they kept telling me to just stick it out.  Well today they call and are all in a panic because my levels are dangerously low and I have to increase my meds like NOW!!!!  So here we go again, a new pill, new dose.  Hopefully though I will start to see some loss with the correct dosage.  Please keep me in your prayers.

Hello everyone (Debs)

I feel like I haven’t posted much on here lately, although I have been reading. So this is just a little hello before I disappear for the weekend. I’m off down towards the seaside (although I doubt I’ll actually get as far as the sea) on a church weekend away. I’m not actually off until tomorrow, but I’ll be leaving straight after school tomorrow, so thought it was as well to write this now (instead of packing, writing a couple of important letters, sorting out my car tax and insurance…)

Right, what was it I was going to say? Oh yes, welcome to Char and CJ, because I don’t think I ever got round to doing that. And to anyone else that I haven’t welcomed! I love the way that this group keeps growing. Although I do find it hard to keep a track of everyone. Maybe we could have a day that we all post one post. Wouldn’t have to be related to weight-loss, could just be some random facts about you or something. That way we could sort of re-group. Or, even better, share something that we could pray for you, that way it’d help us to know more who’s who, and also be a way to show some love to each other. Sorry if any of this doesn’t make sense, I’m just typing my thoughts as they come to me!

Finally, just wanted to say I think (so long as I stay on track this weekend) that I may have finally broken out of my weight-loss standstill. More of that at the Monday weigh-in, but in the meantime it’d be great if you could be praying for me that I’ll stick to my guns (is that how the saying goes?!) and not feel pressured\tempted to eat anything I shouldn’t.

Love and hugs to all, over and out.

  1. Hi Debs, have a wonderful weekend. I’ll keep you in my prayers that you stay on track with your eating healthy plan. Keep me in your prayers too…these long weekends are tough…I always tend to view vacation/holiday as vacation/holiday from eating healthy too…ha ha ha! :)

We’ve got Monday off…therefore the long weekend. :)

  5. Hi Debs…have a great weekend. I agree with you on the idea to have a way to “regroup” everyone. I am a visual person so I would love to have a spot (possibly only accessed with a password) on the website that has a picture of everyone. And if there are people who don’t like the idea of posting a picture at all, they could still post a picture…just not of them…maybe a simple drawing (ie mine could be a smiley face with curly hair.)

I have to confess..I don’t know who’s who because I am so visual…all I “see” in my head is someone’s name in green :-)

If you look in the picture folder, there are posts with pics of just about everyone. Though we probably do need to do new ones, because a lot of us have changed our looks!

50 Healthy Foods (Anita)

mg102.jpgThis magnet set of 50 Healthy Foods found at Simple Memory Art is so cool! I wish I could justify spending the money because it would be fun to plan out the dinner menu with these magnets on your frig. But my frig does not need any more magnets!

  1. These magnits look great fun. On our fridge and freezer we have word magnets to make into silly sentences. But if I ever see anything like these I might have to invest…!

Early morning spunk . . .

I went out for my morning walk and decided to do a different route this morning to shake things up a bit. As I was walking I ran into a dear friend and her dog taking their morning walk. She has just gotten back into walking after a very stressful semester teaching at the local university. She and I have been friends for about 11 years. We had been out of touch except for a few visits with each other since September. Her life and my life were just too crazy for get-togethers and we both have middle school children with busy schedules, too.

Anyway, I ran into her and she did a double take. She said, “Girl, you look SKINNY!!!” That made my day because I was beginning to believe my little bit of weightloss was just not noticeable. Other than Dan nobody really has said much except for two ladies at church. She said it was DEFINITELY noticeable. …and I was even in my big sloppy workout clothes. *BIGSMILE* I am happy now… LOL  Oh, and we spent the next 45 minutes walking and talking together.  :)

Anne, I am in… I will post mine later…

Not One, Not Two, But THREE Spunks in one day! (Kellie)

Yesterday was a banner day for me.  Most importantly my little boy turned 7 which is both amazing and awesome.  Also, I got 3 spunks yesterday.  WOW! I have lost 26 pounds since January and have actually been very discouraged that it has been coming off so slow. (My hubby has lost 60) but boy o boy did it feel good to have folks noticing and commenting on what I have accomplished.  Maybe today I will think about my success instead of my disappointment.  I hope that everyone has a wonderful SPUNK filled day!

Could you pray? (Leann)

Stephanie, Lorri and I have received news today of a cancer diagnosis for a very dear friend of ours.  Her name is Natalie…  Could you pray for her…  it is a very serious cancer.  We are praying for a healing.  She is a young single mother of two children.  Thanks so much!

Extra Extra! Blair's Comments to Post . . . (Blair)

Right here - tee hee….

Welcome again to Char & CJ - good to have ya here :)

Debs - HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!

Anne, I am so stinking proud of you for running a mile girl!! YOU ROCK!! Yes, I got in that sixth minute AND got in just over 2 miles in thirty minutes. This is a milestone for me right now as I ease back into this. This week I’m sticking with the six minutes to solidify my progress before I add on. My workout today had my shins screaming so it’s time for a new pair of running shoes :) I knew it was going to be soon so it isn’t a suprise.

Weigh in - down 3.4 lbs, almost all the way back down to my low for the year….soooo close….then I can move past that mark and on down toward goal. Got in 12 points.

Spunks - hubby has commented numerous times this week about me looking smaller.

Brags - A couple of weeks ago, I pulled out all of the shorts I kept when I packed up stuff last fall. They are all varying sizes. I decided not to care about the size printed on the label and I laid them all out from largest to smallest (the physical size of them, not the number). The biggest pair is too big for me. I have to cinch them really tight to keep them up and they just look silly. The next ones I could barely get over my rump last summer (forget about even buttoning them) and I can get them on, zipped, buttoned now :) There was also a pair of capris my mom gave me last fall that I couldn’t wear at all - they are loose on me now. Yippee.

Ok, That’s all the commenting/posting I’m going to do today lol.

My comments on your comments to my comments…tee hee:

Thanks Debs & Cristina. Let me know how the book is when you’re finished :)

Mandi - yes, that is often one of the first signs that you need new shoes (and no, it doesn’t have to be both shins). A marathon-running gal pal of mine passed along this wisdom to me lol. If you’re putting a lot of miles on your shoes then you will probably need to change them out about every six months anyway. Shin splints can sometimes happen when you push a workout but that defintely wasn’t the case for me today. I had actually planned to do a slower walking pace so I could work on controlling my breathing during the running minutes. So, in my case, I am certain I’m due for new shoes. When I complained to my marathon runner friend eons ago about my shins hurting suddenly while running, the first thing she asked was how old my shoes were lol. “Past six months”, she said, “get new shoes now!” lol. OH and before I forget…AWESOME work on running 2 miles straight! I’m so proud of you!

Note: For those who hadn’t heard, like Leann, I am unable to post comments but still trying to participate however I can.

  2. Hi Blair! 3.4 lbs loss…that’s awesome! Congrats! You are doing great! And great job on the running. A girl I worked with just let me borrow this book she read when she started running a couple of years ago. It’s called The Complete Book of Running for Women. I haven’t started reading it yet but plan too soo. It seems good and easy to read. Maybe by the time I’m done reading it I can attempt the couch to 5k challenge. :)

  3. Blair - so are the shin splints a sign you need new shoes?? I got a new pair of Sacouny (I think that is the spelling) last August and just lately my lower left shin is killing me. I ran 2 miles yesterday at the park (yes I actually ran a whole 2 miles!!!) and I am paying for it today. I thought it was my shoes but my dh thought it might be from amping up my running. Does anyone know how I can tell what it is?? The other side is not hurting so that is why I thought it might not be my shoes.

It is nice to hear from you Blair!!

    Comment by Mandi — May 21, 2007 @ 12:49 pm

  4. Those are both possible reasons for shin splints. If you start running too much, too fast, you could definitely get shin splints. But that’s also a sign you need new shoes!

One way to prevent shin splints is to tap your foot a lot while you are sitting. While you are at the computer, at work if you sit at a desk…even in church. You wanna bring your toe up until it feels tight, but is NOT uncomfortable. Tap all the time!! That will cut back on the shin splints! :D
