Are Diuretics Good? (Bird)

First of all, what is a diuretic? Isn’t asparamagoose a diuretic? Isn’t Coke a diuretic? Are those things good for bad because they pull fluids from your body?

Diuretics are only good if a doc has prescribed them because you are retaining water, as far as I know. Since most of are probably aren’t getting enough water, diuretics work against us.

I think asparamagoose acts more like a purifier in that it helps flush toxins and junky stuff from the body. (Could be wrong on that though) Diet Coke would not fall into this category–sorry.

Comment by lady laura — June 6, 2007 @ 8:13 pm

Didn’t edit that properly–sorry.

Comment by lady laura — June 6, 2007 @ 8:13 pm

There are some natural diaretics like asparagus, parsley, and hot water with a lemon. I use (and have been told to by a nutrionalist) these after I have eaten something that is higher in sodium…like fajita’s at a restaurant. They help flush or counter the effect of the sodium (the sodium makes you retain water ya know).
Coke or diet coke so doesn’t fit in this category. I couldn’t believe how much sodium was in that stuff.

Comment by Tami — June 6, 2007 @ 9:07 pm

so…how much hot water with lemon? And how soon after the salty food do you need to drink it? Would hot tea with lemon do the same thing? Very interesting…

Comment by Brandi — June 7, 2007 @ 6:54 am

Brandi,
My nutrionalist says that if I am out to eat, as soon as I am done eating as for a cup of hot water and a lemon. It’s like a mug full of water and a lemon slice. As for with tea, I don’t think that it would have the same effect but I don’t know for sure. Definitely not caffinated tea. For me it’s kind of like the 0 calorie…0 anything additives that you can add to water. I just don’t do it because pure water is so good for you.

Comment by Tami — June 7, 2007 @ 8:23 am

Ok, so I’m about to try the hot water with lime because I just ate Pei Wei. So, I don’t have lemon, therefore I’m using a lime. Any idea if it works the same?

Comment by Cristina — June 10, 2007 @ 1:12 pm

Sorry, no idea…maybe google the idea??

Confession. (Anne)

Um, hi. My name is Anne and I have been “off-plan” with my eating for the last, um, 2 months or so. I’ve tried to jump start and get back “on-plan,” but haven’t stuck with it. And while I’ve maintained my weight due to an increase in exercise, I would actually like to lose another 6-8 pounds or so. Thus I am confessing my severe “off-plan-ness” (think Taco Bell) to all of you in hopes of accountability. I also am starting back to WW meetings (they’re starting on at my work!) this week, which helps… a lot. So… that’s me.

I also am getting my cholesterol re-checked tomorrow morning — I’ve lost 5 pounds, 4% of my body fat, and several inches (2-2.5 each from my waist, “tummy” and hips!) in the last 5 months since I last had it checked, and I need to know how that’s affected it. So if you think of it, I’d appreciate any and all prayers for normal cholesterol tomorrow when I’m getting my blood drawn.

Although you have definitely not sinned against me - confessed and forgiven! I confess that I too have been struggling with little slips daily. I still eat better than I used to, but I just have not been planning my meals. That’s just an open door for me - how ’bout you?

Sounds like you already got a plan, girl. I am praying for your will to stick with it and to be encouraged at the improvements you’ve made. If your losing tummy fat, that’s definitely a good sign. I suggest that you run with abandon - arms flailing about - I hear it burns more calories and makes you laugh!

And don’t eat at T**o B**l. I could explain further, but I might get sued, so just don’t eat there!

Let us know about the blood tests! (ouch)

Is it just me? (Blest)

Or does anyone else find that they are absolutely STARVING during PMS?

I kid you not, for the past several months my PMS symptoms have been virtually indistinguishable from early pregnancy symptoms… Total Exhaustion. Ravening Hunger. Extreme Irritability. And sometimes even nausea. In case you wouldn’t guess, it’s rather annoying.

And no. I’m not pregnant.

Anyway - anyone else noticing the hunger thing?

YES!!! I guess when I was eating all the time, I didn’t notice.

Comment by Missy — June 6, 2007 @ 3:26 am

Yah…I’m with Missy. I really did allow myself to eat whatever whenever when I was PMSing. Now that I can’t…I not only go to bed hungry, I finish lunch hungry, I finish my snack hungry, I finish my dinner unsatisfied….

Comment by Tami — June 6, 2007 @ 4:32 am

Not to burst anyone’s bubble (or plan), but what if you added an extra 1-200 calories a day back into your diet during PMS and along with an extra 20 min/day of exercise (like a walk around the block with the kiddies after lunch)? The exercise always helps my PMS symptoms, and the extra calories might help the grumpiness… just a thought.

And yes, Blest, I was more irritable during my last PMS than I remember being in a while…

Comment by Anne — June 6, 2007 @ 5:48 am

I actually tried that somewhat yesterday Anne. I got so sick of being hungry - and I thought maybe I either a)needed the food or b) could handle the extra calories with my turbo-charged metabolism. You should’ve heard me last night talking to myself- out loud- Now look! You’ve done nothing wrong. Yes you had some extra calories but it was almost ALL fruits and veggies. And even if you did go over your BMR amount, which I don’t think you did, you’re not going to gain from one day of some extra fruits and veggies… I met my hubby at the door with “Hi my name is ____ and I refuse to feel guilty.”

I live to make him look at me like I’m nuts.

Comment by blestwithsons — June 6, 2007 @ 6:00 am

Have you thought about progesterone? I was having horrible PMS symptoms, even gaining up to 5lbs the week before and I talked with my Dr. and she put me on progesterone 10 days before I start. It is amazing the difference! Not only do I not crave everything in sight, but the sweeets and saltys don’t even SOUND good!

Comment by Kasi — June 6, 2007 @ 6:01 am

How many ways are there to say YES!? I have always noticed it: there is no such thing as full during that time. That mechanism ceases to function.

I haven’t noticed it as much these last few months, nor the emotional imbalance either, but I know it is still there, watching, waiting for me to relax my vigilance.

P.S. I chew a LOT of gum during that time. It seems to help on many levels.

Comment by lady laura — June 6, 2007 @ 6:02 am

Not starving, but sometimes I have overwhelming cravings for chocolate. I used to give in and eat vast quantities. These days, a little of the really good stuff does the trick. Or just coffee, which satisfies the caffeine craving, if not the rest of it.

Comment by Bekki — June 6, 2007 @ 6:09 am

Not starving for me either, but insatiable cravings. Since we are losing a more iron during that week, I’m wondering about extra vitamins?

And I’ve noticed that with a little extra exercise comes a lot more hunger, but usually more of the good stuff rather than the bad stuff. What about lighter exercise, not pushing all-out hard, and extra protein and veggies with iron during that week?

Comment by Anita — June 6, 2007 @ 6:48 am

OK I’m weird…I have less hunger at that time. Not a lot less, but still…and I feel so bloated that it makes me *feel* “full.” So less eating AND weight gain. Totally unfair!!

Comment by Brandi — June 6, 2007 @ 7:51 am

Yep, me, too! I’ve heard two theories, and I don’t know if either is true, but…

1) Our bodies actually burn more calories during this time with everything they’re doing.
2) You are low on iron so your body is prompting you to eat.

I’ve had PMS so little in the last 5.5 years of having kids/nursing that I really haven’t put the theories to the test, but maybe I’ll add in extra iron next time and see if it makes a difference!

C25K: Week 9! (Anne)

(Yes, I am alive. Busy, but alive!)

So… it’s week 9 of the couch-to-5k program, and I’ve actually switched training programs (eek!). If you’re still sticking with the original plan, you should be doing 18 minutes of running (out of 30 total, plus 5 warm-up and 5 cool-down). I actually don’t know that anyone is still on-plan with that, so if you are — speak up! As for me, I was getting tired of counting my running in terms of minutes, so I switched to an 8-week Novice 5k training plan that was distance-based. This week’s running is 1.5 miles, which is perfect with regards to transitioning from the original plan. (I’m running an 11-12 minute mile right now.) I did my second run for this week today — and I did the whole 1.5 miles at once! It was very exciting, since it was the first time I’d run that far before My goal isn’t to always run each distance all at once, but it sure did feel good today!!

I also have to say a huge CONGRATS to Missy, who ran a full mile the other day! Woohoo — you are doing great!

As for everyone else, how are you? Anita, how have your workouts changed from reading the heart rate training book? Bekki, are you still biking a lot? Leann, how’s your running going? Bethany, did you start back to running last week? Bird, have you seen the light and started exercising yet? Blair, what about you — how’s the new treadmill treating you? Blest, how’re the podcast training workouts going? When does that competition end? CJ, how’s the working out 4 times a week going so far this week? Debs, Elly, how’s the working out going over there on the other side of the pond? Are you gently encouraging one another to move more? Leann, are you out of school for the summer? Are you running more now? Missy, how’s it feel to run now that you’ve conquered the mile? Does it make you want to run more? Tami, what’s going on there? For anyone I left out, how’s your exercising going?

Is anyone else noticing huge results from their exercising? Even results that aren’t necessarily showing up in weigh-ins?

Thanks for asking. I had a really great swim on Saturday. I’ve been trying to walk briskly with my toddler while I wait for my ankle to heal, but he is in a stage where he wants to get out and push. Great for his feelings of independence, not so great for my workout. I think I am going to try to ease back into running gingerly, but I am not sure how much to baby my ankle.

Comment by CJ — June 5, 2007 @ 8:41 pm

A LOT. you should baby your ankle a lot. don’t run on it until you can balance on that foot alone and do 20 calf raises (holding on to the wall or a chair or something) with that leg only. one thing you can also do to build up your ankle is to sit with your leg out and “draw” the alphabet with your big toe. but don’t run until you can do the 20 calf raises. (um, hi, i’m accident prone. and have been through therapy for ankle injuries. it’s worth the wait to give it time to heal).

*ok, stepping down off my soapbox* good luck!!

Comment by Anne — June 5, 2007 @ 8:55 pm

Competition ended for me last week. My before and after pics are HILARIOUS. I have to finish getting my package together and mail it by the 11th. All told, I lost 19.6 lbs during the 12 weeks. Not too bad, eh?

Have I mentioned lately that you are a doll? Cause you are!

Comment by blestwithsons — June 5, 2007 @ 10:00 pm

Anne you are an encouragement
Debs and I are trying but it is slow work. I swam twice in the week before half term break and aim to go twice this week. In half term my hubby was off work too. He doesnt swim but we had some good longish walks.
However when I swam yesterday it was not a good time lots of people in the pool and I stopped sooner than usual as my knee was hurting so hope I havent done anything to it. I am a breast stroke girl so maybe ought to try and improve my crawl or back stroke (they are pretty awful at the moment) to use differernt muscles.

On the bright side, I do have a new swimsuit, 2 sizes smaller thatn the old one so I feel very sleek. And I think I am losing inches now even though the weight has not moved so much lately.

Comment by Elly — June 6, 2007 @ 4:15 am

Biking’s fun! I’m getting quicker, I think. Need to find some longer routes round town. I want to go swimming, just need to find the time. And it’s gone cold again, which doesn’t put me in the mood fo getting wet.

Comment by Bekki — June 6, 2007 @ 4:49 am

Blest, congrats on finishing the competition!! We’re all certain that you’re going to win

Elly, swimming twice and going on long walks is great!! Keep with it… and make sure to take some measurements — it’s fun to watch the inches melt off

Bekki, I’m glad that you’re enjoying biking! I’m an embarrassingly bad bike rider (seriously…. I fell off the other day!) but am trying to get better. Good luck finding a good pool… swimming is such a nice change and such good exercise

Comment by Anne — June 6, 2007 @ 5:45 am

Grr, getting a bit frustrated at the moment. Everything I’ve been doing hasn’t been helping the hip. And the one week that I actually spent some time running set it back again. I am seriously going to go get some PT this week. Biking is the only thing that helps at the moment.

Another frustrating thing is that even though the inches have been falling off my waist and hips, NONE have been falling off my chest. I went bra shopping yesterday in hopes that I could go down a size. Not even a chance! I did need new bras so I bought a couple. But pretty soon I’m going to look lopsided. It’s making me mad!

Comment by Anita — June 6, 2007 @ 6:54 am

Anita — good luck with the PT! I hope that it helps. And when did having more through the chest become a problem? Want to donate some this direction? (Sorry, Bird)

Comment by Anne — June 6, 2007 @ 7:13 am

*snort*!

Be careful what you wish for Anita! I was worried in the beginning that I wouldn’t lose in the chest…. Being overweight and nursing four babies… Think opera viking lady. (!!!)

Now it’s gone gone gone….

Comment by blestwithsons — June 6, 2007 @ 7:33 am

In my 20’s I wished I had more. My 30’s was perfect. I was happiest with my size in my early 30’s. But now it seems that this area of the body is like your nose and ears - it all seem to just keep growing!

It’s a problem finding sports bras with support. I hate it when I have to buy a larger size to fit the chest and then the arms and waist are too huge. Swimsuits - bottoms a smaller size, tops a larger size. My swimsuit is 10 years old! Not that I go swimming but still. Those cute tight tops look terrible on me! But then the looser ones make me look like a granny.

My mother had reduction surgery when she was in her 50’s. At least I don’t have her back problems!

Comment by Anita — June 6, 2007 @ 9:28 am

And Blest, I was thinking that you looked lovely in those photos. I wouldn’t bemoan a thing if I were you.

Comment by Anita — June 6, 2007 @ 9:31 am

Hey, Anne, thanks for the advice. I can handle the 20 calf raises, plus I talked to one of the PTs at work this morning about it (a perk of working in an early intervention agency), and I think I’ll try a short and gentle run tonight. Pointing in or out still hurts a bit, but I am A-OK as long as I’m moving in a straight line.

Comment by CJ — June 6, 2007 @ 10:10 am

Maybe you want to wear a light compression bandage while running tonight? Just to make sure to keep your ankle in a straight line? I’m overprotective of my ankles…

Comment by Anne — June 6, 2007 @ 10:13 am

Trying a new dish tonight (Kellie)

So tonight I am trying a new dish for dinner. On Sunday’s and Tuesday’s my family goes to a friends house and uses her huge in ground pool every summer. She is a wonderful single friend in her late 40’s who hates to see the pool not be used. My family is more than happy to help her out! This year we would like to always go with Eric (hubby) and so we will be including dinner by the pool. Now keeping with our healthy theme I do not want to be picking something up on the way, nor do I want it to be so complicated that I am doing tones of prep and clean up there. SO tonight I am taking roasted shrimp in veggies and orzo. It sounds yummy and very easy to transport. The recipe also says it is delicious hot, cold, or room temperature. I will let you all know. Does anyone have any other quick, easy, and healthy ideas?

That Jicama Salad I posted last week would be good.

Comment by blestwithsons — June 5, 2007 @ 7:17 am

I sometimes think you make these names up. First jicama which I at least know what it is. But have not seen it anywhere actually haven’t looked yet.
Now orzo?

Comment by Elly — June 6, 2007 @ 8:52 am

It’s a type of rice. (Right?)

Comment by Anne — June 6, 2007 @ 8:54 am

Orzo is a type of pasta, it is small and shaped like rice but is actually pasta. I promise I did not make it up, I went to the pasta aisle and picked up the package of orzo. It was actually very yummy!

Comment by Kellie — June 6, 2007 @ 11:53 am

Thanks Kellie. Actually I googled it after posting and discovered it is pasta in the US but the word actually means barley in Italian. Weird. Haven’t seen it in UK but then we (our family)don’t do pasta much as my husband needs gluten free.

Good Morning and Welcome to JUNE!! Are you eating your veggies? Huh? Are ya? Is it easy being green…and yellow…and orange? I’m looking forward to an exciting month of new recipes and veggie-tastic health as we take on CJ’s challenge! But for now, you know what time it is!

  1. 144.4/135.6/129 — down 1.4 from last week — and finally below 136! The scale isn’t everything, though. I took my measurements yesterday, and I learned that over the last three months that I’ve been bouncing in the 136-137 range, I’ve lost four inches — including a full one inch from my waist! Exercising is well worth the time investment! ;-)

  2. 200/169.4/160

Up 2.4lb. I keep gaining and losing the same few pounds. It’s a familiar pattern. Go up, realise I need to be strict with myself, have a good week, go down, think, oh that was easy, relax and cheat, go up, repeat.

My goal for June is 4 weeks consistently going down. I don’t mind how much, just a constant trend down.

  3. 212/181/145ish +2
This is really unfair. I have done NOTHING bad, over portioned…nothing. This week has been rough. Between Tuesday morning and Friday morning I gained 5#. I gained another 1# by Sat morning. I lost 7# by Sun morning and am now up 2 this morning. It’s not my scale. I’ve double checked on others. I’ve been moody, super tired for like 4 weeks, my cycle lasted 2 1/2 days…I’m a 7 day kind of gal. I dunno. I’m about ready to call the dr. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Jeff keeps telling me this is all hormonal stuff but it blows!!

  4. Oh Tami…[[[hugs]]]. You are so right. Drat Eve and that fruit!!!

But hey - the very wackiness of your weight lets you know that it is something other than “real” weight gain. You KNOW you are doing the right things. Be NOT discouraged. You’ll get to the other side of this hormonal hoo-ha and have another big drop, I betcha!

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 4, 2007 @ 6:22 am |Edit This

  5. I finally found my scale :( It was a good reality check, I guess. I was 216.4, which is up maybe 4 pounds or so. I can’t remember my last weigh in. It’s a pound over my starting weight! The lowest I’ve gone since joining OWOA is 209, so my short term goal is to go lower than that by the end of the June Challenge.

Tami, that sounds so frustrating! I hope it all clreas up soon.

    Comment by Christy — June 4, 2007 @ 6:44 am |Edit This

  6. Anne - amazing! I love to see the inches go even more than the pounds. Great job!

Bekki - I know what you mean about that mind game. I’ve played that one before too. Don’t give up! Your June goal is good. Don’t pay attention to how much weight is lost, just go for it and don’t look back. :-)

Tami - Man, that is discouraging! But don’t let it mess with your dillegence. You have been eating good and that is way more important than the pounds lost. Even though it would be nice to lose, all that healthy eating is good for your heart, and your mind. Eventually you’ll get past all the hormones. Hang in there!

  11. 212.8/132.8/135 ??new goal??

    Down 1.8 lbs.

I’m not sure what my new goal is. I’m thinking somewhere between 130 and 125…closer to the 125. Before you start thinking I’ve lost my mind (well I have but not over this  ) remember that I am only 5-foot-2. My absolute lowest limit is 120 - and I don’t think I’m going quite that far.

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 4, 2007 @ 7:40 am |Edit This

  12. Blest, I don’t think you’ve lost your mind… I’m only 5′3″, and I’m also trying to figure out what my goal is. I originally thought 125-ish as well, but with the way that my body’s changing right now, I’ve moved my goal up to 129. I may still move back down to 125, but I’ve got to make it to 129 first… and at the rate I’m going, it’ll take me until Christmas. But it’ll be worth it ;-)

  13. 239.8/221.2/200
    Down 1.4

I’m happy with that, yes I am BUT how I wish I were below 220 already. :) I’m headed in the right direction, so that’s what matters…next week, next week I will be there (or a lot closer!).

You know, I’m sure I would have been a lot closer to 220 if it hadn’t of been for this baby shower that I went to on Saturday and the Oreo Balls they had. Yes! Oreo Balls! Sinful! And I, like Eve, caved in! I ate 3! Let me just tell you….crushed oreos with cream cheese, rolled into a ball, dipped in chocolate with white chocolate drizzled over them. Did I say sinful! No more oreo balls for me!

  22. And LadyLaura - if you get weight loss credit for your input and encouragement to this site…You’d be emaciated by now! We love ya- and we need ya! So don’t even THINK about not being here!

  23. Lady Laura, you just stay right here. We love you and need you, so there! And anyway, what everyone keeps saying is that it’s about the lifestyle change not just the weight loss, and what what I hear\see, you’re going about that

  24. 210/165ish/150

I’m going with no change for this week, because my weight varies by over two pounds either direction depending on the time of day. I have, however, lost another half inch off my waist, which is what I’m really excited about! My clothes from last summer don’t fit anymore at all!

  26. 220/178.6/175
Down 4.2 over the last 2 weeks. I am very happy with that.:-) Away with no scales last Monday, then upset stomach so went right down to 175 then back up again to 182. Hopefully my body is now back to normal after that confusion (I feel fine)
And went shopping and bought clothes a size smaller than I expected (UK 14 for tops and skirt although trousers were 16). That is really exciting.
I have some clothes that survived my last purge, some bought not so long ago even that will have to go soon. Just I do have to keep something to wear. have spent a lot this month so hold off for a while but I do now have an outfit for my nephew’s wedding on 30th June.

Well done all who have lost. donDt be discouraged the others. We can do it together. This site is just such a great encouragement.

Surely it is because I have put on muscle lugging my ace bandage around this week. :-)

I miss running but I am trying to be sensible and not hurt my ankle again.

And I have CJs Oatmeal Cookies in the oven…

Mm, mm, mmmmm

Comment by blestwithsons — June 3, 2007 @ 6:42 pm

I had sockeye salmon on the grill(now in season here) and cabbage slaw sweetened with honey instead of sugar. Yes, it was tasty and fairly healthy.

But, yesterday there were cookies at work to raise donations for a mission trip to Uganda and I was bad. I certainly didn’t meet the no sugar, 5 veggies a day challenge for that day!

Comment by Anita — June 3, 2007 @ 7:29 pm

Sounds yummy, blest!

I had: pizza on homemade whole wheat crust with homemade pizza sauce, mushrooms, onions, and peppers. A side of cottage cheese and half a mango. I am stuffed too!

Comment by lady laura — June 3, 2007 @ 7:50 pm

I’m glad that was a burp and not from the other end.

Eatin' in Eden (CJ)

I am excited that so many of you are up for the June challenge! Here’s to great results.

For those of you who felt like five veggies a day was too many dang veggies, here is a brief encouragement to give it a try. Don’t forget God’s original dietary plan for us: Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Okay, so a person shouldn’t get too literal about Old Testament dietary advice (or fashion advice — otherwise we’d have exhortations to Blog Naked coming up next). But there are all kinds of good reasons to load up on the veggies.

One is weight loss. If I am making room every day for large amounts of yummy low-calorie food, I will have less room on my plate and in my stomach for the stuff that leads to weight gain.

A second is nutrition. Your mileage may vary, but I find that my energy levels and my state of mind are much improved when I am eating more asparagus (and artichokes and avocado and arugula and and and) and fewer frozen burritos.

A third is that you can train your inner autopilot this way. If I am eating chocolate chips in front of the computer every night for a week, I feel like something is missing when I try to stop. If I eat lots more veggies every day for a week, I teach my palate to expect veggies. Without even trying, I think about ways to incorporate more veggies in my cooking. I can taste the sweetness in jicama or even broccoli, and relish the bitter tang of a mess of greens.

I’m reading this over and thinking, Everybody already knows all this stuff. So I’ll just throw in a little logistical encouragement: it only takes a little while to get in the five-veggies groove. Here are a few ideas.

If you’re home in the mornings, put a few potatoes in to bake. (Unless you’re low-carbing, in which case keep reading.) Eat one for lunch with tomato sauce and cheese on top. For the next night’s dinner, cube one of the leftover potatoes and toss it in a spinach-potato frittata.

Grow sprouts with your kids (homeschool science and weight loss all in one — try lentil sprouts!) and mix in a heaping cupful with your tuna salad or egg salad. Serve it in a hollowed-out tomato.

Double the onions/celery/peppers in your recipes for casseroles, sloppy joes, etc. If I mince them finely, the kids don’t notice.

I was never a big salad-lover until I did this veggie thing two years ago. I bought dressing that I liked (no funky scratch-and-dent Ginger Dill Low-Fat Vinaigrette for me) and used as much as I wanted. I figured learning to enjoy the lettuce was worth the calories in the dressing. It worked.

Check Crescent Dragonwagon’s The Passionate Vegetarian out of library for a million tasty, nutritious, and slightly offbeat things to do with vegetables.

I went swimming while the guys ate dinner, so I’m going to eat some bean salad and grape tomatoes. And green salad. And maybe some frozen peas for good measure.

CJ..Thanks for all the insight, just for the record I think you are absolutely right.

Comment by Kellie — June 2, 2007 @ 7:02 pm

Good stuff, CJ. Plus, from what I understand, a serving size of some veggies is only 1/2 cup, and with something like raisins, only 1/4 cup. One big salad could get 2-3 servings of veggies in it, if it was loaded.

Comment by lady laura — June 2, 2007 @ 8:15 pm

I’m strange, but I like to eat spinach with my eggs in the morning. It’s kinda like the same way you eat spinach in quiche except I just eat the spinach and eggs separate

It’s a habit I began mid-way into phase 1 when I was tired of tomatoes with my eggs. The habit stuck like so many other healthy ones I credit South Beach for.

Debs (Debs)

Ok, I’ve just written a post over at my weight-loss blog (Can Big Change to Beautiful?) summerising my first day of the June Challenge. I intend to do this every day this month as a way to stay accountable to myself and see how I’m going on the challenge. Feel free to come over and encourage me if you want to

In other news, today we purchased a crock pot. Hurrah Please please please share some of your tried and tested favourite recipes. Thank you Leann - I’ve already spent time reading some of your posts about crock pots on your foodie blog. I’ve tried googling for recipes, but there are just so many out there! It’d be great to try some that other people have already done the testing for us!

I’ve been eyeing the the “fix it and forget it lightly” book everytime I go to the store these days. It’s a book of crockpot recipes. I’ll probably end up buying it soon.
