Anne’s dress-SPUNK reminded me of my own good dress experience this week. Remember I was dreaming of vintage dresses? There’s one shop in town I’ve been browsing in since I moved to Cambridge that has gorgeous second-hand dresses, some newish and some 50s and 60s stuff. Of course, I’ve never been able to try any on, just to gaze and dream. But this week, I went there and riffling through the rails as usual, found one dress I thought looked about the size of the one dress I have that fits. And I tried it, and it fitted! And oh, what a dress: 60s, gold brocade, knee-length shift dress, boat neck at the front, but with a gorgeous scoopy back, very Marilyn Monroe. Wow!
I didn’t buy it. I couldn’t quite justify it with no occasion coming up to wear it and weight still to lose (and anyway a straight across neckline isn’t actually that flattering on me, however gorgeous the back may be,) but oh, the excitement of the world of possibilities that dress represents! I walked out of the shop wearing a big grin, knowing I’d be back for more.
So fun!

[…] Remember the gold dress I was so happy to fit into? I went back and tried it on a few more times. And in the end, I had to buy it. […]
