I’m a bridesmaid in a wedding in August, which means none other than the dreaded need to buy a bridesmaid dress. Now, I do appreciate my friend (the bride) for wanting us to get dresses that we can wear again. And luckily I live in a city where the store (Ann Taylor) carries the full line of bridesmaid dresses…. So down I went to try them on today.
I am typically a size “B” in that store. But I was hoping to be a size “A” by the time the wedding rolled around. (”A” is one smaller than “B”). I had called ahead and they were holding the dress for me in both sizes. I thought that size “B” would fit, but was considering buying two dresses and later returning one (hopefully the larger). So I tried on the size “B” dress first — it was too loose! Then I tried on the size “A” dress — and it fit!!
I was ecstatic! I still have more weight to lose between now and August, but this was just the incentive I needed to get my rear into gear.
Yay! That’s such a great feeling.

[…] Anne’s dress-SPUNK reminded me of my own good dress experience this week. Remember I was dreaming of vintage dresses? There’s one shop in town I’ve been browsing in since I moved to Cambridge that has gorgeous second-hand dresses, some newish and some 50s and 60s stuff. Of course, I’ve never been able to try any on, just to gaze and dream. But this week, I went there and riffling through the rails as usual, found one dress I thought looked about the size of the one dress I have that fits. And I tried it, and it fitted! And oh, what a dress: 60s, gold brocade, knee-length shift dress, boat neck at the front, but with a gorgeous scoopy back, very Marilyn Monroe. Wow! […]
