All about me (well not all) (Katherine)

I should have written to ya’ll long ago. So sorry gang. So here I am to share a bit of the low down on silly-ole-me.

I am totally from the south! Born in the south and lived in the south all my life. Now My people back home would tell you that I don’t live in the south really, not any more. But I am sorry to hurt any feelins or anythang but the part of the Carolinas we live in is with out a doubt The South!!

As a child we lived on a farm. All total about 500 acres. My Parents divorced and after my dad remarried he moved to Louisiana. I graduated from high school early (G.E.D) and went to stay with him for a little while.  I went to  Cosmetology school and graduated from that at 17 and started a career. While I was in school I worked to pay my expenses and I kept that job also. I worked 2 jobs all the time. I had a friend that owned a house keeping business and needed help so I started working with her also. Plus I got a job as a waitress. Let’s just say I worked ALL the time. One of my best friends, also my roomate at the time, introduced me to my awesomely handsome husband.  He was a millitary man. We came here 20 years ago. This is the only duty station we have had with one exception. A 2 year tour in another southern state, then right back here.

My husband has a son from a relationship befor we met. We have 6 children together. His son Josh has only lived with us once , recently for about 7 months, and he has moved on.  We have loved him and prayed for him since the day he was born and in our heart he is one of our children just like the rest. So we always say we have 7 kids.

For the most part since we came here I have been a stay-at-home mom. We have homeschooled our kids from the very start. Our oldest son, at home, graduated from high school last year. He entered the dual-enrollment progrom when he was 16 so he had two years of collage credits when he graduated from high school. He is a totaly awesome guy! He and the next one down, also a son, have chosen not to date. Not for now anyway. This is not easy for the girls that know them because they are ridiculously handsome!

I said for the most part I stayed home. For a few years befor he retired my husbands job was a shift work position. 4-on 4-off kind of thing and one set on was days the next nights. During this time I started helping my neighdor, who was a friend. She was a pastry chef and needed an assistant. Cooking is just in me and I’m pretty good at learning that kind of stuff really fast. She tought me most everything she knew. After she left I was given the job she had and worked there until I got pregnant with my last baby.

Now I help our church with the food ministry. School my little punkins and work myself half-to-death in the process. I am a total work-a-holic. I have had a hypo-thyroid isue for many years. My weight gain is not due to pregnancy. I get VERY sick during that time and weigh less when I birth than before I got pregnant.  The most I have weighed was 220. I got down to 178 once but for the past 2 years maintained at 182-186. Sometimes I would go up 4-6 or down 4-6. Then around Oct. of last year I started gaining a pound at a time til I was back to 194. That’s when I said enough with this. And here I am. I started with you all on this walk at 194. This week I am down to 179.5.

I’m so glad to be here with ya’ll. I’m a total computer freak. I never get on and I never check my e-mail. Sad but true. (A couple times a week I do get on and read the post here.) So please forgive me but I’ll try to do better.

Oh, by the way. Blest is my dear old pal! I knew her before she blogged. I have been the “blessed” recipient of her kindness. I have eaten her food, slept in her house and held her sweet babies in my arms. What a lucky girl am I!!!!! Blessed I would say!!!!

  2. Well hi Katherine (or are you Kellie in disguise?)
Pleased to meet you. The cooking sounds fun but hectic, How many people for Easter Breakfast? Does your family miss out when you are cooking for others or are you training them to be good cooks too. I mean the sort that will get on with the meals when you aren’t available. Or do they only want to make the fun stuff, cakes, easter nests (that’s my daughter HP’s thing this Easter)etc, etc. Actually though that is a good way to start as long as it doesn’t stay there. I am glad to have 3 daughters who enjoy cooking and cook for me often. Well HP is coming on now as she has to cook for herself at uni so is learning fast.
