Intro (Gina)

Hi everyone! I’m a new OWOA member. I’ve been doing Weight Watchers since October. However, I didn’t officially join until November 26th. I just hit my 50 lbs mark on Sunday. (I’ve actually lost around 70 lbs- but I didn’t actually start weighing myself until I joined WW because I was in denial).

I am a little over 30 lbs away from goal. I think an ideal (and realistic) weight would be in the 120’s, but I am not committed to an exact number yet.  Until now, things have gone pretty smoothly. But as I get closer to goal, some issues are coming up. Such as:

1. I’ve recently hit a bit of a plateau. My weight loss has slowed down and I’ve had to intensify my workouts and make some changes in my diet.

and, the big one:

2. I’m starting to panic about  reaching my goal and actually think part of the reason for my plateau could be due to my fears. (What if I gain the weight back? What if I’m still not happy with myself? Will I be able to stay motivated after the newness of being thin wears off ?  What will I do when being fat is no longer an excuse for not doing something that I am afraid to do? How will I handle the attention from men? etc)

Anyway, despite the challenges, I want this so bad. And, I’m not going to give up.  I feel really blessed to have found such a great group of women to share this journey with and I look forward to getting to know you each better.

  3. Gina those fears are real ones but you don’t have to give into them. One of the reasons this web group are so accepting of each other is we are all christians and we know that nothing we do earns us our salvation. we are saved because of God’s great love and mercy, its pure grace. Because of that I know that God loves me whatever size I am. When I turn to food as comfort instead of God yes I am sinning. However it says in 1 john that if we say we don’t sin we are liars but if we confess our sins, God forgives and cleanses us. That means we can start fresh each day.
I worry about the weight going back. i know the pressures of life that cause me to overeat are not going to go away. However I owe it to God to be as gosd a steward as I can of my body.
Well done for getting this far. you can do it and keep the weight off.
Hope the above isn’t too preachy, its meant in love.

  7. Welcome, Gina!

I understand many of your fears and have had some of them myself.

    Comment by lady laura — August 1, 2007 @ 5:52 am

  8. WELCOME Gina! And congrats on your accomplishment so far!!

    Let’s see…

Will you still not be happy with yourself? Very possibly. Losing weight did not fix any of my issues except being fat. I’m still NUTS. And sometimes I like that- and sometimes I don’t. But at least I don’t have that self-loathing that goes along with being overweight and out-of-control of my eating anymore. And honestly - I’d rather be fit, cute, and nuts then fat and nuts. I have more energy for my nuttiness…and that has to be a good thing.

Stay motivated? I know I’m still motivated. But the newness hasn’t worn off yet. I think that’s where the acquisition of lifelong habits comes in though. Junk food is just SO not a part of my life now. Ditto for over-eating for emotional reasons. Habit is WAY stronger than motivation or mood, y’know?

Attention from men… Personally, I kinda like it.  But then, I never had it much before. I like the smiles… I just look demurely away. I don’t like stares, though. That’s only happened once or twice- I pretended I didn’t see it and got away asap. And of course, it’s not like I’m dating and having to deal with it on a more practical level.

  10. Welcome Gina! you’re doing awesome. I haven’t any answers, since I have some of the same questions/concerns but I’m not anywhere near to worrying about it yet ;-D.

(Blest - I like the phrase “fit, cute, and nuts”… it’s just so cute! and happens to be my goal!)

    Comment by Tracy — August 1, 2007 @ 7:20 am

  11. Welcome, Gina! I agree with many of the others - yes, you may still not be happy with yourself even at your goal weight. I think that’s why it’s important to also work on inner issues and our relationship with Christ at the same time as we are working on our ‘outers’, kwim?

Way to go losing 70lbs already!! I know you’ll be able to bust right through this plateau with a little tweaking to your routine. Good luck!

  13. Hey Bird- how are you coping with all that extra attention from men?

    (gales of hysterical laughter)

    Comment by blest — August 1, 2007 @ 1:55 pm

  14. Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

Blest, part of the reason I put on so much weight had to do with something really bad that happened in my 20’s and it involved a man. I think the excess weight was a protective covering so that I could avoid having to deal with relationships. I thought if men didn’t notice me much anymore, I could just avoid the whole thing. But of course that only works for so long.

    Comment by Gina — August 1, 2007 @ 3:09 pm

  15. [[[[hugs]]]]

Yeah. I think mine was only a protective coating against my own lustfulness. Honestly, I’m grateful I had a weight problem all through high school. I’m sure it kept me out of trouble!

New game (Debs)

Ok, so it’s just too quiet around here. I’ve decided to do something to liven it up a bit. I’ve invented a new game. What happens is I will give you the name of a food, for example aubergine. The next person that reads this post and wants to comment has to tell us something about that food. Now that could be a strange unknown fact about it, or it could be your personal reaction to that food (yummy with …, or yuck I wouldn’t touch it with a barge-pole) or it could be a recipe including that food as one of the ingredients. Finally they have to name a new item of food for the next person to comment on. Got it?

No, probably not. Let me give you an example

If I said aubergine, the first commenter could say any one of the following things

“I love eating aubergine with …..”
“I know a recipe with aubergine in, it’s …”
“I know another name for aubergine, we call it eggplant”

They would finish off by saying “the next food is …” and the next person would take that food and start over.

So there you have it, Debs’ new game. And the first food for you to get your teeth into islemons.

  2. P.S. Good idea, Debs!

    Comment by lady laura — July 31, 2007 @ 12:14 pm

  3. The first time I bought Bok Choy, the one I had was full of caterpillar poo.

However, that’s not very useful, so I will say that it’s yummy stir fryed with a little sesame oil, soy sauce and sesame seeds.

    Let’s try parsnips

    Comment by Bekki — July 31, 2007 @ 1:08 pm

  4. I’ve never eaten a parsnip…and in the past would have said I never would. But now I’ll try just about anything!!

    The next food is tofu.

    (YAY Debs!!)

    Comment by blestwithsons — July 31, 2007 @ 1:35 pm

  5. Can’t stand tofu, just cannot do it.
    The next food is pomegranate.

    Comment by Kellie — July 31, 2007 @ 1:38 pm

  6. Tofu…I think a person needs to know what kind to buy and how to cook it properly before they try to do so! I made tofu spaghetti once and…well, something was definitely wrong! Someday I’ll try again!

    The next food is blueberries…

    Comment by Dawn — July 31, 2007 @ 1:46 pm

  7. Oops, sorry, should have refreshed!

    Comment by Dawn — July 31, 2007 @ 1:46 pm

  8. That’s ok Dawn ;-)
Hmm, lets see. Blueberries and pomegranate are both very cool words. I’ve eaten blueberries, and we have some in the fridge right now, however I’ve never, so far as I can remember, eaten pomegranate.

    The next food is cheese.

    Comment by Debs — July 31, 2007 @ 2:03 pm

  9. I love cheese! What more needs to be said? Cheese & macaroni, cheese on crackers, cheese & wine. I think I might be starting to sound like Wallace & Grommet.

    Hmmm, next food is… rhubarb.

    Comment by Anita — July 31, 2007 @ 2:17 pm

  10. Ok, pull up some rhubarb from the garden, cut it and wash it, and stick it in a bowl with a dash of water and a little bit of sugar (or sugar substitute). Stick it in the microwave for a little while, until it’s soft and then eat  Add some creme fraiche or yoghurt if you so desire. Delicious.

    The next food is mushrooms

    Comment by Debs — July 31, 2007 @ 2:20 pm

  11. Ok, since Debs is jumping in on quite a few, I have to do this one. My best friend once had a recipe which I thought was called Really Good Mushrooms. She didn’t tell me until years later that the recipe was just Mushrooms and that she scribbled Really Good across the top because she really liked them. I have no idea how to make this low cal or low fat. Sorry!

    Here’s the recipe:
    Really Good Mushrooms

    2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
    2 tablespoons dry sherry
    2 tablespoons soy sauce
    4 tablespoons butter
    1 pound mushrooms (or more)
    1/2 cup finely chopped onions

Combine Oyster sauce, dry sherry and soy sauce in a bowl. Set aside. Saute the mushrooms and onion in the butter over medium heat for 10 minutes. Add the sauce mixture and reduce the heat. Simmer for approximately 20 minutes until the sauce is glossy.

    Comment by Anita — July 31, 2007 @ 2:56 pm

  12. Ok people, I’m leaving you to it now cos I’m off to bed. But Anita, they need a new food! Night all xxx

    Comment by Debs — July 31, 2007 @ 3:00 pm

  13. oops! I forgot the new food.

    How about tuna?

    Comment by Anita — July 31, 2007 @ 3:00 pm

  14. Ooh I love tuna, fresh or tinned. My daughter, HP, used to take tuna for her packed lunch every day - in a pot to eat with a spoon. She didn’t and doesnt like sandwiches. She ate the bread separately just with butter.
    The next food is bananas.

    Comment by elly — July 31, 2007 @ 3:03 pm

  15. Bananas are only good if they are still slightly green…unless you’re making CJ’s Oatmeal Cookies, and then they can be all the way ripe.

    The next food is…

    Beans

    Comment by blestwithsons — July 31, 2007 @ 3:16 pm

  16. There are so many kinds of good beans. Green beans, red beans, kidney beans, butter beans, but my favorite is black beans. Yummy and heathy too.

And the new word is Tangerines.

    Comment by Tracy — July 31, 2007 @ 3:23 pm

  17. LOVE Tangerines. They are best in January, don’t ask why they just are.
Shrimp come on down you are the next contestant!!

    Comment by Kellie — July 31, 2007 @ 5:30 pm

  18. I love grilled shrimp and shrimp coctail. I used to love shrimp scampi, but it isn’t very figure friendly.

    The next word is chocolate!

    Comment by Gina — July 31, 2007 @ 5:49 pm

  19. Chocolate is a gift from God, provided it’s dark. If it’s milk, it has been tainted by the Fall. :)

    How about Rutabagas?!

    Comment by lady laura — July 31, 2007 @ 5:59 pm

  20. Ok I have heard of rutabagas, a root vegetable I think but I have never to my knowledge eaten one. Are they good? Laura you do like coming up with the vegetables don’t you.
O and by the way Blest I love over ripe bananas, can;t see what you can like about them when they are nearly green.

    Ok next food is tomatoes.

    Comment by Elly — August 1, 2007 @ 2:58 am

  21. (a quite aside to Elly - I’m pretty sure that rutabagas are what we call swede, in which case you have eaten it lots of times!)

    Comment by Debs — August 1, 2007 @ 3:02 am

  22. Ohhhhh Tomatoes. Tomatoes can make me cry. I adore them! My grandfather was a farmer and the best tomatoes ever came sun warm from his fields. (which is the part that makes me cry) I don’t think a day goes by in which I don’t consume tomatoes…

    Next food….

    Oats

    Comment by blestwithsons — August 1, 2007 @ 5:44 am

  23. Oats are for horses. Okay, they’re for people too. I might be the only one on here who doesn’t like cooked oatmeal cereal-stuff. It makes me want to gag just thinking about it. Childhood trauma and all that. :)

    How about Garlic?

    Comment by lady laura — August 1, 2007 @ 5:55 am

  24. Laura, I didn’t really like oatmeal until we tried steel cut oats. And we’ve tried cooking it with milk and without milk. I prefer the no milk method. With fresh fruit. Try it. :-)

Ok. Garlic. Garlic is used to keep vampires away. (kidding) Also works good at keeping wives away. But that’s a different story. :-)

My husband loves garlic. I’m not as fond of it. But most recipes need garlic to give it more depth of flavor. I just prefer to taste all the flavors, not just garlic.

And, another FYI. Don’t precook dinner with lots of onions and garlic in the morning before going to work out at the club! All I could smell while working out was the onions and garlic my hands had touched while chopping. And it made me want to quit exercising as soon as possible!

    Let’s talk about honey.

    Comment by Anita — August 1, 2007 @ 6:33 am

  25. Honey. ick. Don’t like it - and I’ve tried to! The only way I can deal with honey is used as a sweetener in baked goods. Even then, I can taste that distinctive honey taste and it’s not my favorite.

    Let’s see….

    BREAD

    Comment by blestwithsons — August 1, 2007 @ 6:49 am

  26. No one touched bread? Christ Jesus is the bread of life.

And bread is necessary for a nice sandwich, with spicy mustard, lean turkey, tomatoes, cukes, and lettuce. Yummy!

    Jalapenos are next.

    Comment by lady laura — August 1, 2007 @ 11:25 am

  27. Jalapenos blended with onion, allspice, cinnamon, soy sauce, olive oil, salt, and probably something I’m forgetting make JERK. Jerk is fabulous on meat - especially a roasted pork loin. I wish the pork loin I’m about to roast had been marinated that way. Sigh.

    Next food…you guessed it:

    PORK!

    Comment by blest — August 1, 2007 @ 1:57 pm

  28. Yes pork is probably the favourite for roast in our house. It has to have crunchy crackling usually achieved by rubbing in salt and oil. And I love to eat apple sauce with it but some of us don’t. We also eat pork chops or loin slices quite often as they are easy to cook quickly. Because I work every afternoon I miss being able to start dinner about 4pm.I usually come in about 6 pm now and I am hungry. David makes a good line in curry but he can’t cope with cooking every day. Still haven’t got into crock pot cooking yet much, but slowly will get there.
The next food is pears because I just unpacked some from my organic box.

    Comment by Elly — August 1, 2007 @ 3:26 pm

  29. I make a fabulous PEAR crumble that my family just loves. Next food is……..pizza

    Comment by Kellie — August 1, 2007 @ 5:27 pm

  30. A quick and easy pizza is to use a whole wheat tortilla and top however you pleasa! I like mine with pizza sauce (no sugar of course), mozzarella, a little parmesan, chopped peppers, onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms!

Aw MAN. And I’m so hungry right now!!! I’m going to bed. But I think I’ll have that for lunch tomorrow!

    Next food… NUTS

    Comment by blest — August 1, 2007 @ 9:08 pm

  31. Nuts are great. Macadamias, cashews, almonds, pine nuts, lots of yummy nuts. Oh, and peanuts in peanut butter. Who could live in a world without peanut butter!

Nuts are great as snacks, or in things. My Dad makes a great cashew nut curry. We throw pine nuts on the top of a stir-fry to make it more interesting. Nuts are great:grin:

    The next food is cabbage.

    Comment by Elly — August 2, 2007 @ 5:37 am

  32. That last commnet was actually me, but then we actually both thought of cabbage at the same moment, so I guess really it was a bit of a collaboration

Weigh to Go!

marv-mon-weigh-in.jpg

Good morning everyone and welcome to the last weigh in of July 2007! How was your weekend? What’s on your agenda (non-weight related) this week? Let’s chat! Oh yeah… and

REPORT!

  1. Hello everyone.
    294/261.6/260 (short term goal)
I am down 1.6 from last week. Yay :-)

We are still cleaning and washing stuff to get rid of the bed bug infestation. The end still seems a bit too far off for our liking, but we’ll get there in the end. Hmm, later in the week I’m looking after two delightful boys, and since they need to run let off steam I’m hoping the weather will be good so we can get out and play.
That’s about all. How about everyone else?

  3. Up 0.8 to 144.0 — gotta love the water.

My agenda for this week? Lots of work, lots of cleaning, lots of time with friends that I’m sad to be moving away from, and attempting to squeeze in a few workouts. I’d like to maintain around 144 or less between now and the end of the move, and then jump back on the bandwagon to lose the last 5 stubborn pounds.

  4. No change …

This week is CRAZY! This week includes dr appointments for the two oldest, a baby shower, a Bible study social, rehearse for a special I’m singing at church on Sunday, and keeping my neice and nephew at least one (maybe two) days this week. It’s all good. :)

  6. 143/125/120ish
    down 4!

This weekend we had a garage sale and I am so glad it’s over! This week I am (with the Lord’s help!) figure out what I will be doing homeschooling-wise for fall and how I will schedule it. I could use prayer for that. Also, we will be heading down to Houston for a funeral mid-week. Bird’s grandfather went to be with the Lord Friday.

  7. 330/303/150

Down 2 this week. I have not a whole lot going on this week for the first time all summer. I will have my friends son tomorrow and we will all be going to the movies. Meeting the woman I disciple tonight and just hanging with my kiddos the rest of the week. I am really looking forward to it.

  8. 147/131/130 No change. I’m sure, due to lack of exercise and general laziness.

This week: Try to get back on an exercise schedule. PT for my hip is done for now and not much change in the way it feels. Now I’m on a stronger prescription NSAID while doing prescribed PT exercises on my own.

Also, must get that window trim painted before fall weather rolls in and windows need to be shut. We’ve had a wet summer and last week it suddenly started feeling autumn-like.

And, 2 more weeks of our cat hobbling around in a splint. He is starting to bounce off the walls and wants to go outside in a bad way - which he isn’t allowed to do until the splint comes off.

  9. 220/173.8/(175)168 new goal
Down 1.2 since last Monday. A bit lower on Wednesday but hey only Mondays count don’t they!
Can’t work out how to strike through my previous goal but wanted to leave it in there.

Weekend well Saturday was CLEANING(bug fighting), Sunday was church really good followed by lunch out with David, Debs and HP to celbrate our 30th Wedding anniversary which is today. Then lazy rest of day as we had a rest from cleaning but I did lots of ironing (the natural progression from washing lots of stuff). I iron in front of TV so it turns from a chore to a pleasure.

This morning I have met up with 3 old friends which was brilliant - we chatted and caught up and then prayed together. Now its back to cleaning and washing……. and seems like it will be that for the rest of the week. Debs is flagging today as she is gunked up with hayfever/cold.

We are really looking forward to our coming holiday, 2 weeks in Cornwall from 11th so we will be a bit quiet then on the blogging front.

David will be cooking curry for our meal tonight.

Look forward to hearing about the rest of you.

  11. 204 starting weight / 155 goal

I found this site through Blest with sons while googling to find the meaning of “premillenial eschatology,” which I still haven’t figured out. Enough theology for today anyhow.

Agenda - I have about 140 shirts to print and 20 to embroider, plus 48 hats and 3 or 4 jackets to embroider. Plus we are moving, so I have lots of packing and cleaning to do.

    Comment by Bethanny D. — July 30, 2007 @ 8:46 am |Edit This

  12. eschatology is the study of the end times. Premillenial means that you believe that the Rapture will happen before the thousand year reign of Christ.

And your being a person who prints and embroiders shirts means you and I need to TALK!!!

    Welcome, welcome!!

  13. Ok here is something interesting…

At first i weighed in at 182. Down 4 from Monday. Then 5 min later I didn’t believe myself and I weighed 185. Down 1. Who knows, I’m just glad to be down at all.

  14. Yeah well…I’m up about FIVE from last Monday.

Nope. Haven’t been naughty. Well, other than working out so hard that my knees despise me today.

I know it’s water. I can see it in my face, I can feel it… ARGH!

Anyway. I am having my husband take my scale away from me. I’m way, way, way too hung up on it. Almost more so now than before goal. I think I’m just terrified that if I take my eyes off my weight for a moment, it will jump back on me!

I did a set of measurements today and I’m going to work on letting my clothes talk to me.

  15. BLEST! You absolutely *have* to take care of your knees! You don’t want to have both of them replaced. Trust me. It is not a fun recovery!

  17. I’m away from my scales, so no idea what I weigh. The amount of running around I’m doing, I’m thinking it’s gone down, but who knows.

I’m very very tired. I’ve got 2 more days of the conference I’m helping run left and then I get to go home and collapse in a heap. Looking forward to our family holiday sooo much.

  18. 231.5/189/160

Down 1/2 pound. Slow but steady.

Dang, my honey’s down to 120!

  19. Ooops my bad…she’s down to 125. ;-)

  20. I’m not counting this as official because I’m away from home, so I didn’t weigh on my scale, but this afternoon I was weighing 220.6 which is finally DOWN and closer to the 2…teens. Anyways, I’ll be back home for next Monday’s weigh in.

    Comment by Cristina — July 30, 2007 @ 6:23 pm |Edit This

  21. I’m down 3lbs from my starting weight (which was a couple weeks ago) to 149 - hooray, I’m in the same ‘decade’ of weight as when I got pregnant this last time. I was definitely above what I should be then, so I still have a ways to go after that, but it feels good to be getting closer to where I was a year ago.

I had a pretty good week - walked/jogged on the treadmill four times. My big downfall I think has been grabbing a cookie or a granola bar or whatever when I’m up at night nursing the baby. I’m not really hungry, but somehow it’s become habit to have a little snack every time I’m up.

Debs - ooo, bed bugs??? Yuck! I really hope you get rid of them soon!

Bird & Brandi - sorry to hear about the loss in your family, you will be in my prayers.

  22. I’m really late with this but here are my numbers:

210/165/135 — I have no idea if I am up or down from last week because honestly I have not been paying much attention to the scale. I needed a break from it and I’m still not sure I will consistently weigh in. I’m just taking it week by week. ;O)

  23. I’m late. 264/249.2/130 - down half a lb.

I’m a bit sick of being stuck around 249. I am going to exercise more this week and get OUT of this rut.

I’m curious about what happened with the quiz?

    Comment by Tracy — July 31, 2007 @ 3:25 pm |Edit This

  24. 207.5/157.5/120ish

    I’m down 1.5 this week.

My internet has been down since Friday and it just started working again this afternoon. So, I couldn’t post my weigh in on Monday.

Get your write on (Mandi)

Warning: This has absolutely nothing to do with weight loss.

If you did the quiz you may have seen the question about who worked at a pregnancy center.  Well in case you didn’t know that person would be me!  Our center is currently working on creating a devotional for women in crisis pregnancies.  We are looking for stories or devotions from….well….anyone!  I’d like to ask my fellow OWOA pals to help contribute to this book (only first names will be published).  As incentive I am offering L’oreal products (since my hubby works there and I get wicked deals).  The winner (drawn randomly) will be able to select from a variety of offerings including Lancome, Biolage, Redken, Kiehls, Biotherm, etc.  L’oreal even offers a wide variety of products just for men so Bird you are included!! What I’m looking for are stories about 250-300 words about your unplanned pregnancy, or struggle with infertility, or adoption, or whatever else you think might minister to a 18-29 year old female.  Yesterday I got an email from a guy who I am selling my camcorder to.  He knew I worked at the pregnancy center because that is where we agreed to make the sale at.  He then emails me the most hilarious male perspective on the birthing process.  That is going in the devotional! So there really are no limits. It could be funny, sad, touching, your own testimony, etc. Ok so I think you get the idea! Anyone who would like to participate can email me your completed entry to jeffsmandi AT yahoo DOT com.  The deadline will be August 4th.  I’ll announce the winner on August 6th at our weigh in. downloads aamateur porneabdl fetish pornvolt 220 porn6teen show porn6th porn graders7th porn heavenporn fisting abraxoseries porn absoluteporn adina deaftv adu porn tMap

One Year (Tracy)

A year ago, I wrote my intro.  It was July 26, the day after OWOA’s birthday.  July 26 is my birthday.  It’s still July 26 in mountain or pacific time… so I’ll just sing myself happy birthday again (Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday to MEEEEEE, happy birthday to me - okay, that is a bit ridiculous, but hey, it’s 12:10 a.m. central time and I have had a long happy day.)

I had a hard time writing a goal yesterday.  What is my big goal for next year this time?  I ultimately decided it would be to get to 160.

I found that I was having a hard time making a big goal because I didn’t make my goal for this past year.  I wanted to lose more weight in this past year.  I wanted to be a success story!  I want to take “after” pictures.

But at about 248 - I’ve lost 16 lbs.   There isn’t much difference between “then” and “now” yet.  I’m not getting spunked all that much.  I have days where I wonder if I should just give up and accept where I am as the way I’ll be.

But something inside me says NO!  NO NO NO NO.  It doesn’t have to be this way.  I know plenty of people who have made it to the other side.  And I can keep running the race too.

I have lost 16 lbs.  I have a lot more to go.  But even if I only lost 10 lbs a year, it is still a loss.  And I do not accept that this is the best that I can do.

With God’s help, I can do anything.  Even conquer the laziness and lack of discipline, and even get through the hard times when they come - and lose more weight.  And no matter what else - I lost weight this year.  LOST.  Not gained.  LOST.

And that feels good.

Happy birthday to me.  And thanks to OWOA for one of the best birthday gifts ever.

  1. Tracy, that was so moving! Yes, 16 pounds is a LOSS…a significant loss! Just take baby steps. One day/meal/hour at a time. I am proud of you and glad to be a part of this site with you. Happy birthday!!!

    Comment by Brandi — July 27, 2007 @ 6:01 am

  2. Happy Birthday Tracy, thank you for your inspiring post. I too have struggled with not losing as much as I have wanted but you have to look at every pound lost as one that is never going back on and then just keep moving forward. Have a blessed day.

    Comment by Kellie — July 27, 2007 @ 6:15 am

  3. A friend from work lost about 35 pounds (which got her to her “normal” weight) … but she did it in FOUR years! She just wasn’t in a hurry. Like Brandi said, 16 pounds is a loss and a really good one at that. Just think, previously you might have been 16 pounds heavier after a year! ;-)

    Comment by Bird — July 27, 2007 @ 5:19 pm

  4. Sorry Tracey its a bit late but glad you had a happy day and happy returns. Well done for hanging in there. Yes 16 lbs lost is worth celebrating. You can do it girl so please don’t give up. You have lots of mates on this site and I don’t think Blest is about to give us up even though she has made her goal. After all its not just about losing but keeping it off too. Go for that goal and we’ll celebrate with you when you make it adn the in between steps to boot.

Are you kidding me?!!! Of course I’m not!  You guys are family now!

A late Happy Birthday Tracy! And I am so proud of you! You are still here! You’ve lost weight and you haven’t quit - in the face of a tough year!!! You go, girl! You WILL get there - and what a celebration we’ll have when you do!

  6. well, I’m glad that Blest will stick with us!

And I’m out to lose more than 16 lbs this year - though even another 16 would be 32 :-D .

One Weigh or Another, I’m going to get there!

Sober Up, Ladies (Bird)

It’s been awfully quiet around here after the big party yesterday. I guess Blest is still sweeping the Oh-Wa floors while everyone else is asleep or hung over from a full day of partying hard.

Oh well, it was a fun party while it lasted.

  3. I’m very late to the birthday weigh-in. But I weighed myself this morning and I’m down to 165.4, only 0.4lb above my lowest weight so far. Hooray! I’ve got another week of conference work (and conference food) to go, but that gives me confidence that I can make good food choices, even when the food on offer is mostly outside my control.

Some Stats . . . (Blest)

In one year…

We had 1354 posts and over 7,700 comments!!

463 of those posts were written by (ahem) blest!

We’ve achieved a technorati rank of 245,531 which is out of over 3.5 million blogs, so that’s not bad!

We’ve posted over 200 recipes!

We’ve been spunked and spunked again!!

We’ve had a lot of fun, made new friends, supported each other through good times and bad, and even forgiven each other a time or two.

We’ve walked, run, danced, swam, jumped rope, zumba-ed, pilate-ed, and sweated…a lot.

We’ve inspired people that we may never even know about.

And….

We’ve lost over 600 pounds!!!*

What a great year!!! Thanks everyone!!!

*note: I can’t give an exact number because not everyone reported in… But it’s definitely over 600!

  1. And I must add that, in my considered opinion, we’ve achieved my goal of being the best darn weight loss blog on the web - even if we’re not the most well known.

I seen quite a few - and nobody comes close. (and I’d be honest about it if they did, too!)

  7. Debs–same here! At first, I called it “One Weigh” for short and I thought Bird’s term “Oh-wa” (good, I know how to spell it now…) sounded funny. But I finally gave in and “oh-wa” is totally a household term for us. When will they add it to the dictionary? ;-)

  8. singing
You say OhWa- and I say OhWOah
I drink coffee and you diet cola
    Oh Wa, OhWOah, coffee Cola
Let’s call the whole thing off….

But ohhhh if we call the whole thing off
    Then we must part
and ohhh if we were to part then that would break my heart

So if you say OhWa and I say ohWoah
I’ll say OhWa and forget ohWOah
For we know we need each other so
We better call the calling off off
Let’s call the whole thing off!

I’M DONE! So I guess I have no weight loss goals for next year but to maintain, maintain, maintain! Well, and eat better, drink all the water I’m supposed to, exercise regularly, and achieve a spotless house (oh, “dreams” not “miracles” Blest said!) This was my short term goal for the last year or so but I’ve been working on the baby weight (50lbs + on my last pregnancy) and my baby just turned six! Happy Birthday OWOA!!

  3. What a fun day. Ok my weight is 184. That is down 2 from Monday. My goal for one year from now is…..155lbs. But that is counting on not getting pregnant between now and then. And no, I am not planning on it. That is a big goal. 10 lbs less than when I got married, and its what I weighed in high school. I’m not even sure I will want to get all the way there. We will have to see how things are when I lose more. I hate the, I’m too skinny look, and since I am on the taller side…Well see. But you said to aim big. I think we should dream for small. Right?

  10. Happy Birthday, OWOA!!!!! I am so grateful for all of you!
    Current weight: 127
Goal a year from now: about 120…maybe more….I will see how things go. When I set my initial goal, I didn’t plan on building up these leg muscles so much by running so that could affect my goal since muscle adds weight. I just think I will know when I get there.

    Congrats, Sarah!

  11. Today’s weight is I don’t know. I usually weigh myself in the morning, and it’s now 7pm and I know I’ve been drinking loads all afternoon, and I’ve just eaten dinner and it’s that time of the month, so I think weighing myself right now wouldn’t tell me much. Oh, and I’m off out for the evening really soon. However, what I’ll do is weigh myself tomorrow morning and log that here, which will only just be the end of the day for you guys, so I think that helps!

Ok, at the moment I am around 260 something. I really need to motivate myself to break into the 250s. Dreaming big, I would love to be very close or even past the 200 mark by this time next year. I find it quite hard to grasp a hold of what that will be like, as I have been fat for so long, so I’m not going to try to give myself anything more specific than that, hope that’s ok!

Oh, and Blest, I have a prize to give away. It’s an embroidered notebook and matching twin photoframe (shop embroidered rather than handmade, but still beautiful. I think that makes sense!)

  12. I’m about 165 right now. Last year at this time I was 210 so I’m down 45 pounds so far. My goal for this time next year is 135. That will be another 30lbs. Honestly I’ve been trying to not make this so much of a focus lately….so we will shall see how this next year goes. My main goals are to be stronger and more flexible.

  13. OOOooooohhhh! I won something! How fun! Now I can use my acceptance speech! “ahem” I want to thank all the people on OWOA who have inspired me - that would be ALL of you. It’s because you TRY! I am at the pool 4 days a week with my girls. They have lessons and Mommy gets time to exercise without interruption. It makes me sick to see all the other mommies (some daddies too) sitting there with a mostly empty pool waiting for someone to swim in it and they do NOTHING! I know that none of you would look that gift horse in the mouth. When I go out in town and see all the unhealthy people out there I want to grab so many of them and tell them about you all and what you do and that they could live better! They could be healthy! You are all changing your lives one moment at a time with the choices you have made. The choice to improve your health and lead better lives for yourselves and your families. “sniff - I think I’m going to cry!”. You guys are truly inspiring!

  14. I am still 153… I have been 153 for a very long time. I am glad to, at least, be holding. I have lost 10 pounds and kept it off in this past year, even with a crazy life change (school). Most people gain in such times so I am proud that I have not.

My goal is to lose another 10 pounds this year (or more if it happens) but I want to lose it and keep it off permanently. So, by next year I will be 143 and have a good BMI and be deemed healthy by all medical standards.

Sorry, I have not been around much. I am working on final projects for school and have one more BIG test next Tuesday so I will be scarce after this post, too. I am disciplining myself to stay offline and get my work done. Not an easy task… LOL

I am proud of each of you and blessed to know you all.

  23. I started out last year this time at 200 and today hit my goal I gave at the beginning of July - to be at 155 by the 25th! I weighed in today at 155.4!!

My goal this time next year is to be happily maintaining somewhere between 140 and 145.

This is such a great way to celebrate our anniversary. I’m off to bed now (it is after 11pm after all!) once I’ve helped my Mum fit a blanket into the freezer. Yes, don’t ask!
Enjoy the rest of the day everyone

  31. I don’t have a scale at home because I would be totally OCD about it. I weigh in once a week at my WW meeting. I was 159 on Sunday. I hope to be down a couple of pounds by next week. My long term goal is 120ish (hopefully by the end of the year). First, however; I must figure out how to bust through this plateau.

I can donate a prize for our drawing. Clinique True Bronze, Pressed Powder Bronzer (Sunkissed)
and the book “God Has a Dream for Your Life” by Sheila Walsh.

  34. This is my first post here - found this site through Blest With Sons’ blog. :)

I’m 28 and mommy to 3 - boy 5yrs old, girl 2yrs old, and our newest is 8 weeks. I’m looking to lose my remaining baby weight and the baby weight from the first two babes as well!

    Today’s weight: 152
This time next year: 128 (lol, I feel like 125 is too ambitious and 130 not enough!)

  50. Ok, my weight this morning (Thursday morning) I’m at 262.4
I think that’s down a bit from Monday, and that’s probably down to fluid.

  52. Sorry I missed posting yesterday. That’s cos when I was on the comnputer later in the day ie when this post was up I was too busy sorting out my banking account. I didn’t move - the bank was taken over but it meant new passwords and a new sytem of logging in on line. think I’ve got it sorted now though. then we went out for the evening.

Anyway I did weigh yesterday morning and I was 173.2 which was 1.8 down from Monday when I hit my goal of 175 to make 45 pounds lost. I feel a bit like someone else said that only Mondays really count so we’ll see where I am next Monday. My goal for this time next year is 168 I think and to be maintaining around there. I think that is the real crunch for me. I have been here before and thought I wouldn’t put it on again but I did.

Sorry I feel like a party pooper for not contributing yesterday. I will have a go at the quiz. think I just might be the answer to one of the questions but its hard to say.

Thanks everyone for being part of this site. It is just so great.

  55. I know I’m late, but still want to add my goal!

    Current- 209.

This time next year- somewhere between 140 and 155, whatever I decide is a healthy maintence weight for me.

And hopefully there won’t be a surprise baby in there after my husband returns from deployment!
