Let's be in the minority... (Anne)

Has anyone else been reading about this study that says that people who diet are worse off than those who don’t? They make a lot of blanket statements but then finally say that they’re referring to the yo-yo dieters. I finally found a good, worthwhile, encouragingarticle that talks about the study, and one statement hit me:

Researcher Dr Traci Mann says: “You can initially lose 5 to 10 per cent of your weight on any number of diets. But after this honeymoon period, the weight comes back. We found that the majority of people regained all the weight, plus more. Sustained weight loss was found only in a small minority of participants, while complete weight regain was found in the majority.”

Let’s be in that minority! The end of the article is good (none of the other articles I read about this study included any how-to tips of not falling into the yo-yo dieting phase). This is what I needed to read today, as I’m losing steam a little bit. Enjoy!

  1. The article also gives another reason not to bemoan loosing one pound a week:repeated rapid weight gain and loss associated with dieting can double the risk of death from heart disease.

Slow and steady wins the race!

  2. I was just saying something about this to my husband last night! I was telling him about the low stats for keeping the weight off and how I plan to be in the minority!

think KNOW a lot of it is mental. Regardless of your attitude towards “cheating”, if you think of this as a short term thing that will be “over” someday and then you can go back to eating whatever you want… Well, that doesn’t bode well in my opinion.

Lifestyle change - whatever way you get there - is really the only longterm answer.
