Poll Questions (Blest)

Two important, One not so much…

1.  The OWOA Ladies Weekend:  This Summer or This Fall?  And final chance to suggest location.

2.  The QOM Competition: It has come to my attention over several weeks that, although I did my best to make it as fair as possible, it still isn’t quite fair.  There is a competitive advantage to the people towards the middle of the weight loss spectrum.  I propose to make a change in the prizes.  Instead of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd - I suggest dividing the competitors into two groups - those with higher starting weights in one group, those with lower in the other. Then there will be a first prize winner of a $45 Amazon gift certificate in each group.  This would leave a $15 gift certificate to be awarded by email ballot - I’m thinking something like “Most Encouraging”.  WHAT DO YOU THINK of this proposed change?

3. I believe that all people are either Salts or Sweets - by which I mean that they are either tempted most by sweet treats or by salty/savory stuff.  Which one are you? Which is your spouse?

  1. 1. Fall is my preference.
    2. Sounds great to me! But then, I’m not participating.
    3. I’m salty - chips are my downfall, unless chocolate is related. My husband is neither. Sometimes he even forgets to eat. That dirty dog. My brain is always thinking about food. It’s something I’ve had to work on and pray about.

  2. 1. Not coming :-( , so no preference.
    2. Yeah, that sounds fairer. What would the weight categories be?
    3. Sweets, definetely. Especially ones involving chocolate.

  3. 1. Fall is my preference too!
    2. That sounds fine to me too. I would like to know what the categories are as well…out of curiosity :P .
    3. Sweets. Especially chocolate. And ice cream. And my hubby has to be reminded to eat. Especially if he’s at the computer or reading. I echo Anita’s statement…the dirty dog!

  4. 1. Fall.
    2. Well it’s my idea - so yeah, I like it. I’m still trying to figure out the split.
    3. I’m salty, hubby is sweet. (in more ways than one!  ) You should see that man tear through a bag of candy. But you know he’s got that lean mean Marine thing going on. I’m just so glad we don’t look like Jack Sprat and his wife anymore…

  5. 1)Fall. Summer is too hot around here (assuming midwest)
2)I love the idea. It might even put me back in the running;P
3)This is hard to answer. I don’t really like “sweets”, but I do like chocolate which is often in something sweet, but by itself (when dark) isn’t. I guess I’ll go with salty as I love nuts, especially the bad ones.

  6. Now see… I love a good piece of dark chocolate. And I’m very partial to mild sweet things like shortbread and cinnamon-y muffns. BUT they still aren’t my true weakness. I didn’t get fat from sweets - though they didn’t help! I got fat from Santitas tortilla chips and pizza and…

  7. 1. probably fall but really depends on the details
    2. ok, whatever you wanna do is fine with me
    3. sweet but can go either way (hubby is salty but can go either way too)

  8. 1. Fall…location? I can’t think of anything off the top of my head…have some been suggested? I will have to look at the original post.

    2. That sounds fair…I joined too late to participate anyway.

    3. I am sweets and Bird is salties

    Comment by Brandi — April 5, 2007 @ 11:31 am

  9. Plan it and I will see what I can do…

I am not in the competition because of crazy life!!!

I am sweet and so is Dan the man. ;)   Salty is a death sentence at this point…  just sayin’ :D

    Comment by Leann — April 5, 2007 @ 11:31 am

  10. Wish I could come…. {{{stop whining}}}

I am a sweet AND salty gal. especially the two together!

    Comment by Kimberly — April 5, 2007 @ 11:48 am

  11. 1) Fall - the way it keeps snowing here, the kids’ll be in school through July so summer family time is in danger!
    2) Whichever way puts me in the lead :D (hehe)
3)75% sweet/25% salty - and if it’s together (choco Frosty and fries or choco covered pretzels!) even worse.

  12. Oh, and the hubby (ex-Marine) gives in to only one temptation - cheesecake.

    Comment by missy — April 5, 2007 @ 11:58 am

  13. 1. I would so love to be able to come to that.
    2. Sounds like a great idea.
    3. Depends what mood I’m in.

    Comment by Debs — April 5, 2007 @ 1:03 pm

  14. Debs, if ya can get a cheap flight to Boston, you can ride the rest of the way with me!

    Comment by missy — April 5, 2007 @ 1:11 pm

  15. 1. Fall, if Hubby will let me come.
    2. I had thought about that, too. I think that sounds fair. I had also thought about percentage of your goal lost. Like if you started the competition with 50 lbs to lose, and you lose 25 (including challenge points), you score 50%. Then whoever’s closest to 100% wins. But your way may be fairer.
    3. I usually go for sweets, but if I’ve had too many sweets, I want something salty to even things out. I love snacks that combine the two, like Chocolatey Chex Mix, or chocolate covered pretzels.

    Comment by Jana — April 5, 2007 @ 1:21 pm

  16. Oooh, I like the sweet and salty mixed too! Sugar Babies and buttery popcorn. O Babies, how I do miss you. (My teeth, however, do not.)

    Comment by lady laura — April 5, 2007 @ 2:40 pm

  17. Good thinking on the comp. Our mathematical family thought it didn’t quite work so this sounds like a good compromise.
Sweet or salt. I would have said sweet. ceratinly chocolate but I think my tastes are changing. And can depend on the occasion, mood etc so not very conclusive. sorry about your theory.
Don’t think i will be joining you in the fall but who knows maybe Debs will. Mind you its long way for a girl who gets homesick very easily.

  18. 1. Fall is better

    2. I like the %of goal you have lost jana was talkeing about

    3. sweets and breads are my downfall……

    Comment by Maria — April 5, 2007 @ 3:00 pm

  19. Percent of goal would be horribly unfair.

Person A has 20 lbs to lose and loses 5 25% gone
Person B has 140lbs to lose and loses 5 4% gone

    See what I mean?

    Comment by blestwithsons — April 5, 2007 @ 3:37 pm

  20. O.K. Ya’ll I vote for FALL
Now on the other, I say split it into the two groups.
That sounds most fair to me!!

    Comment by Katherine — April 5, 2007 @ 4:06 pm

  21. Oh #3– God help me please I LOVE BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!

    Comment by Katherine — April 5, 2007 @ 4:08 pm

  22. I think we all should go visit Debs (and Elly & Bekki too) so they don’t miss out on the group get-together! :-)

    Comment by Anita — April 5, 2007 @ 4:33 pm

  23. 1. I prefer fall but don’t plan around me. I’m hoping to be able to make it, but it all depends on what’s going on at home and work and where/when the trip will be.
    2. The changes work for me.
    3. I’m definitely a sweet person. I mean, I prefer sweets but I’m sweet too…ha ha ha! But seriously, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE chocolate, preferrable milk chocolate. As for my husband, he prefers salts but if sweets are the only thing available…he’ll take it…ha!

    Comment by Cristina — April 5, 2007 @ 6:48 pm

  24. 1. I can’t come… too much stuff going one with moving cross-country most likely sometime around then.

    2. Sounds fine. Blest, I trust your decision of what’s fair. :)

    3. My mom is a salty and my dad is a sweet — and I’m cursed with both… but maybe slightly more salty.

    Comment by Anne — April 5, 2007 @ 8:20 pm

  25. 1. I’m available either time however if we decide to go in the fall we might reap the benefits of beautiful fall colors.

    2. It sounds fine to me. Blest, I also trust your decision.

    3. I don’t know that I am one or another. It depends on my hormones really. My body is a total cycle. At certain times I crave brownies or ice cream and at others I crave Mexican food or pizza. When an emotional upheaval happens…what I want to turn to really depends on my emotions. I would say that Jeff is a definite sweets person.

  26. I don’t get that homesick, and anyway you ladies would all feel like family (that was responding to my Mum saying I get homesick, in case anyone else is confused!)

You know Missy, I might just have to take you up on that offer..! It would be so amazing to spend some time travelling in the states, coming to stay with as many of you as I could… (I’ll babysit for you in exchange!) Think I might just have to think and pray this through a bit, but seriously I don’t want to continue my school job beyond the end of July, and people keep saying to me ‘do things when you’re young, free and single, before you get tied down’, so maybe I ought to start thinking big!

    Comment by Debs — April 6, 2007 @ 4:52 am

  27. See, that’ll teach me to try to do math.

    Comment by Jana — April 6, 2007 @ 6:27 am

  28. I have a guest room Debs!! And you wouldn’t have to babysit…much.  Oh man - that would be too cool!

    Comment by blest — April 6, 2007 @ 6:34 am
