What The Heck, I’ll Jinx It

I’ve exercised every day this week so far and I’ve watched my food intake pretty closely. So far I’ve dropped FOUR pounds this week.

Booya!*

* That’s the second time today I’ve used the word “booya” in a blog post.

I’m Coming Back To The Heart Of Weight Loss … (bird)

… and it’s all about you, it’s all about you self control. I’m sorry, exercise, for the thing I’ve made it, when it’s all about you, it’s all about you, portion size.

I guess I could name a few other things that “it’s all about”: not going wild on whole wheat, going easy on the queso, lightening up on the dark chocolate, etc.

So this is my official weigh in. I figured it’d be best to publicly humiliate myself so I can remember the sting. . . .

231.5/190/160

Two … and … a … half … freaking … pound … GAIN!

Not only that, I’ve only been losing like half a pound — if that — when I do post a loss lately. I’ve had enough of that crapola. It’s over.

I’m losing three pounds this week. I’m calling my shot. Not only that, I’m going to start posting an average of two pounds lost per week until I’m done with this sucka’. Believe you me.

It’s on!

  1. You are hilarious! I was LOL! I think we start to loose and get comfy with ourselves that “yeah, look at those numbers go down” and then we get stagnant. I’ve been loosing/gaining the same 2-4 lbs since May! I’m with ya Bird…”enough of that crapola”. It’s time for those numbers to start moving SOUTH…way SOUTH!

I’m coming back to the heart of weight loss
And it’s all about food, all about food choices
I’m sorry bod for the shape I’ve made you
But I’m making some new, making some new choices!

King of endless girth, no one can express
How much it would be worth
To be fat no more, Even if I felt sore
    Would be fabulous!

I’ll give up more than white flour
    Give up white sugar too
And I’ll work out so hard
    I won’t cheat, I won’t stray
    Not for a single day
I’m doing it for my heart!

I’m coming back to the heart of weight loss

  1. I’m not weighing in, personally. My weekend was a nice as you could expect, considering. I’m very well looked after. I’ve had very nice get-well gifts… But I’m still in a lot of pain, and certain biological issues are all gooned up.

Put it to ya this way, I went to the ER last night - and all the people in the waiting room were giving me that sweet “Oh look - she’s having a baby” smile. I look about seven months pregnant…and I’m NOT. Very uncomfortable.

But I imagine that I’m losing…cause goodness knows I’m not eating much.

Down i more pound again this week. I am so encouraged now that I am consitently losing. I am marveling at the fact that today my baby starts kindergarten. School begins this morning and all my children will be there. I am sad. Hey there my friend blest let me know if you need anything.

  3. 210/154.2/145

Down two from last week, and I didn’t weigh in until after breakfast because I forgot it was Monday. Got to get back on the treadmill. Got to.

  4. 212/187/145 up 2.
I literally cried this morning. I have been busting my katoosh since getting back from WA and just keep bobbing around. I seriously worked my hind quarters off and then I stayed away from things I’m not supposed to eat which is great considering our weekend. We took the kids for their first trip to the fair and I ate NOTHING there.
Then yesterday we went to aquarium in Chat. and I ate what I should.
I’m seriously in tears here. I’m practically ready to start a “diet” just to get that initial serge of weightloss!

    Comment by Tami — August 27, 2007 @ 6:44 am |Edit This

  5. Good Morning Ladies!

Oh my gosh Blest, a trip to the ER?!?! I hope you get to feeling better very soon. You’re in my prayers.

Kellie, great job on another pound! You’re SO close to your goal…have a great week!

And Jana…another 2 and that was after breakfast…yeah!

Tami, I’m so sorry that you’re feeling down and not seeing the results that you expected. I know it’s easier said than done, but your body is probably just trying to get readjusted after being on the road. You know how the scale plays tricks on us…you can be up 4 lbs one day and down 6 the next…we just never know. But you’re doing great…eating the right stuff, exercising…the scale might not show it (YET) but you’re feeling great and as soon as your body adjusts, those numbers will start reflecting it. Don’t give up…keep on trying…those numbers WILL go down!

  6. I forgot to post my weight…I haven’t weighed in since August 6th!

  7. 143/125.5/120ish
up 1 (I was a little piggish over the weekend…parties where there is always food out are the worst for me…mindless eating…)

Blest–I will continue to pray for you. I know it’s not fun but thank God you lost the weight so they could find the thing!

Kellie–way 2 go! Keep it up!
    Jana–you go, girl!
Tami–don’t be discouraged! You know you did the right stuff. The scale can be a deceiver!!! I have been there, girl! I bet you either are putting on muscle or next week you will drop the 2 and then some…or maybe something in between. Seriously, don’t listen to the lies of the scale ;-)

    Christina–great job! Come on, 2teens!

    Comment by Brandi — August 27, 2007 @ 8:55 am |Edit This

  8. 264/240.8/130 - minus 23.2 lbs so far, only 1.8 to my next short term goal, and less than a pound to the 230s!!! MOST COOL. Lost 2.8 lbs this week.

I’ve discovered that yes, indeed, I do have ab muscles. And they hurt when you use them a lot. But I don’t hurt as much as Blest - I am praying you feel a lot better soon. It must have been terribly bad to do an ER visit.

Weigh to go on the loss, Jana and Kellie and Cristina! It’s fun to watch the scale going down.

And Tami, hang in there - my weight fluctuated a lot this week - if I’d weighed in on Thursday, I would have had a gain (was retaining water). Keep trying and doing the right things and we’ll be praying for a great result soon.

Brandi - I know what you mean about the parties with the food laying around. I’m looking forward to the kickoff of small groups in our church this fall - but with it comes the return of “food and fellowship”. I’m trying to start planning ahead for that. Hopefully I’ll be able to get everyone on board in my small group to root me on and not try sabotaging my way of eating!

As you can all see, I’m quite hyper this morning. I am having a fabulous day. I love these days when they come - storing up some sunshine in my soul.

  9. 131. Feeling very lazy and trying to be good but it’s hard.

You all are an encouragement! I didn’t even feel like checking in and there you are - the faithful.

Blest, hope the pain diminishes quickly! Don’t worry about weight losses or gains. Just rest and get better!

Tami, yes, don’t listen to the scale! Feel good about the fact that you ARE eating right. The weight loss will eventually catch up. You know, I’ve also noticed that if I don’t get enough sleep and/or am too stressed out, my weight won’t budge. That may be effecting the scales even though you have been doing so good in the food area.

I am Debs, OWOA member, but for some reason the site has not been letting my comment today. I’ve finally managed to do it using a different name and a different email address. It wouldn’t eve work if I was logged in to the site.

I wrote a weigh-in comment earlier, but it wouldn’t work so I emailed it to Blest instead. If she’s feeling up to it it might appear at some point, otherwise I will write another one tomorrow!
Well done everyone, and don’t be discouraged Tami. You’re doing all the right things, it’s just the scale being difficult!

    Down 1.

I was hoping that I’d be really good last week and break 200, but instead I cheated a bunch in the beginning of the week. I was really down without realizing why, and finally realized I’m just burned out from the last two and a half months of my husband being deployed. I was way overtired and frustrated with my kids :( But my dad is here visiting this week, so hopefully that will help me recharge and get excited about losing weight again!

    Welcome back, Debs and Elly!

  15. Hello, everybody, I have been away for a while. I have not figured out a good strategy for exercising (remember when the toddler kept waking up while I was gone? I could only take so much of that) and we were away on vacation (bad food choices galore) and I have been a giant stressball with the start of the semester (still more bad food choices). (Huh, spellcheck is telling me that stressball is not a word. IT IS SO. Spellcheck is also telling me that spellcheck is not a word, so what does it know?)

So I was startled to see this morning that I am 10 pounds above my goal.

  16. Hello all! Back from holiday too. We had fun and did some walking and mostly ate good things (if you don’t count the odd ice-cream or fish and chips :-) ).
    Numbers: 200/167/160

I can’t remember how much I was at the last time I weighed in, probably about 167, so no change, which is pretty good really. On the other hand, over the last week or so, I’ve not been as strict with myself as I ought to be, so decided to go back to phase 1 for a week or two to get myself back into the groove again.

Yesterday I was up a bit (can’t remember exactly how much) since my last weigh-in on the 6th. However I know i had a fairly carb heavy weekend, and I weighed at lunchtime rather than first thing like I normally do, so I’m just hoping that the trend is downwards again this week!

  18. ok finally. site is iffy not letting us post and our internet has been acting up as well.
    This morning, one day late.
    220/178/168
Up 3 over the 3 weeks since last weigh in, and up a bit more over my lowest. O well I would have liked to maintain but holidays have included fish and chips and ice cream (definitely not South Beach) culminating in weekend at my mother’s who cooked lots for us.
Back on the wagon now I think.
Holiday was great. Being home not so great. Still fighting the bedbugs! Wearing me down. School starts for me on Monday. Funeral today of a colleague. It was good though - she was a believer so sadness mixed with joy.

Nice to be back in touch with you all. Bird is so funny. Blest is being Blest despite her pains. get better soon Blest. Keep hanging in there folks. we can do this. weigh to go!

  19. Yikes, Blest - I hope you are feeling better very soon!

We had a wonderful holiday - a great two weeks together as a family, visiting some good friends who live way too far away! I definitely ate too much while we were gone (why must our friends be such good cooks??!) but weighed in this morning just barely making my goal of staying in the 140s while on vacation!

152/149.5/128 - I’ve run the last couple of nights and it feels good to be doing that again. My little girl is three months today and I feel like I should be further along, but I know I just need to be patient and KEEP AT IT!

Anyweigh

marv-mon-weigh-in.jpg

There’s one more thing you’ve got to do….you know what it is!!

Do It OWOA!!

Let’s see…we need a game in our weigh-in today… I think I’ll steal one from The Thinklings. It’s a quote game. The way it works is I’ll put a quote in the comments. Whoever goes next puts up a quote - but it MUST have a word in common with the previous quote. For example:

“What do we love? PAIN!” from the movie Say Anything can be followed by “Pain is weakness leaving the body” from the Marine Corps. Which could be followed by “She only wants me for my body” from Cars. See what I mean? Try not to use easy words like The or Is or junk like that! And you can use movies, books, song lyrics, Bible verses… Just as long as it’s a quote.

Ready, set, go!

  1. Okay… first quote:

“The lady of the lake, her arm clad in purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water thereby signifying by divine providence that I Arthur was to carry Excalibur. That is why I’m your king!”

Ought to be some good possibilities in that!

Oh - and you can play more than once and you don’t have to be weighing in to play. Though you do need to weigh in. I’ll weigh in later…

    Comment by blestwithsons — August 20, 2007 @ 7:19 am |Edit This

  2. Okay, can I use your word providence and change it’s form to provedential? If so here’s a quote

“Anne will be the very girl for her. I call it positively provedential.”

    Comment by Tami — August 20, 2007 @ 7:29 am |Edit This

  3. If not here’s another.
“I shall call it -let me see-the Lake of Shining Waters. Yes, that is the right name for it. I know because of the thrill. When I hit on a name that suits exactly it gives me a thrill. Do things ever give you a thrill?”

“L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
    V is very very extraordinary
E is even MORE than ANY one that you adore…”

I MADE MY SHORT TERM GOAL OF 20 lbs!!!! I’m so psyched. I’m so excited. I’m going to keep moving on down! I need a new short term goal - I’m picking 239 - which will be 25 lbs lost, and the first time I’ve been in the 230s in 3 years.

    And I’ll pick ONE -

Let’s see… there was something I wanted to ask you guys. Something to discuss along with the weigh-in…but I can’t remember what it was!!! Somebody come up with a fun question, willya?

Now….REPORT!

  4. No change, still at 131, but lot’s of fluctuation between Mondays. Grrr. But… getting better at exercising again. :-)

    How about this question:

What’s your favorite Labor Day Weekend activity? Or for those outside the U.S., what’s your favorite thing to do before autumn comes and the kids go back to school?

Well. We rarely go anywhere for holiday weekends. The traffic is just too horrible. But hiking is at it’s prime right now. And we went on a nice hike last Saturday.

My favorite food to take to a party is rather naughty - yet SB legal.

    Pizza Dip
1 pkg cream cheese, softened (can use reduced fat if you want)
    1 tsp italian seasoning
    Dash garlic powder

    3/4 cup grated parmesan
    1 cup shredded mozzarella
    1 cup pizza sauce

Mix the cream cheese with the seasonings and spread in the bottom of a microwavable pie plate. Top with half the cheese, all the pizza sauce, and the rest of the cheese. Garnish with chopped green pepper, green onions and/or chopped turkey pepperoni.

Cover with plastic wrap. When ready to serve, microwave 2-4 minutes - until it’s all warm and squidgy. Let stand for two minutes. Serve with crackers or chips or breadsticks or…

I had this at a party back in February. I gave myself a small helping and ate it slowly with 7 whole wheat triscuits. Soooooo good!!!

Labor day? I dunno. I just enjoy the time with my hubby!

Well, I’m down a little over one from the last time I weghed in two or three weeks ago! But of course, two days ago I was down to 206, but it’s that wondrous time of water weight, so I guess next week will seem like I lost a lot!

I don’t know what my fav food to take to a party is, but when I have people over and am not dieting, I love to make enchiladas and corn cake :)

I’m not sure, I think down one. I have nothing “good” to take to a party. I have a yummy recipe for baked artichoke squares, but those babies aren’t on any diet known to man.

Blest, your recipe sounds delicious - all the recipes you post sound good! So, I was wondering - do you (or any of you other lovely people) have some good South Beach friendly baked salmon recipes?? I’m getting kinda tired of my usual teriyaki…

My dear mother gave me about six salmon recipes the other day from magazines, and they all had honey or barbecue sauce or some such other forbidden goody in the sauce!

  9. 216/185/140 - up 4.5 lbs. My last weigh in was July 9. Then I went on a month long road trip! Last Tuesday, when I arrived home I weighed 188.5, so I am VERY happy to be going back down. I ate pretty good until the last 10 days. A short trip to Vegas and bouncing from house to house gave me too many temptations and fewer alternatives to battle them. I seriously got out of the habit of drinking water, too.

Back in the saddle and trying to find a way in my tight budget to eliminate any cheating!

(If you noticed the change I am now using my high weight of 216 - where I was at in late August of last year when I started eavesdropping at OWOA.)

  13. No change for me this week. And uh, Labor Day is just a day off for me;), and a dish? I usually take a dessert it seems, or Tomato Salad at this time of year. I am finally sick of it myself though.

  15. I didn’t weight in yesterday because it skipped my mind. I usually work from home Monday’s and I work out in the a.m. but yesterday I had to go into the office, so I forgot.

    So, until next week… :)

Fav food to take to a party…hmmm…I’m always up for trying something new. The last dessert I took was someting sinful. :) In a trifle bowl, layer brownies, chocolate pudding, chocolate cool whip, some kind of crushed candy bar, more brownies, regular cool whip, more crushed candy. For an appetizer, last time I tried this…throw some plain frozen meatballs in a crockpot with a jar of grape jelly and a jar of heinz hot sauce. It was yum! Someone at work made it and it had a great taste, so I got the recipe and tried it and it was a big hit and super easy.

  16. I did not weigh in yesterday due to extreme craziness of life. I am around 162 which is a 4 lb loss from last week. Really I think it is just water but I’ll take it. ;O)

:-( Up again, 3.4 up from the last time I weighed myself which was 10 days ago. Very tired, in need of a holiday and not doing very well on the eating front, not helped by going to a wedding last Saturday.

Well, I am going on holiday this Saturday. My plan is to do as well as I can for the rest of August, but come September, make a fresh start on sorting out things like regular exercise and eating properly. I’m going to have a big change in my routine anyway, as I’m leaving my job to study full time. If I can build in good habits as I start to build up a new routine, that will help.

  2. 294/260.8/260 (short term goal)
I think this is my lowest (by .2) so far
I’m down .8 from last week. And also went to the same wedding as Bekki!
Actually I’ve not been feeling well this weekend, so although that meant I sat out the dancing at the wedding reception it also meant that I haven’t really been feeling that hungry. Don’t worry, I have been eating! It just meant it wasn’t really hard to turn down things like the chocolate cheesecake, which on a normal appetite day would have been hard to resist!

  3. No change. Well, maybe up a smidge. But I have a cheapo scale and only count whole pounds. There was a birthday BBQ last night that I’m sure contributed. I did exercise a little more this last week, so that’s good. Still working on getting that back into the routine.

Yes! I think we need a contest or something. I’ve been feeling very lazy lately. Goaltenders concept sounds interesting. Can’t wait to hear more.

  4. How about a summer photo competition? Or since probably not everyone’s got a digital camera or wants to post pictures a virtual snapshot - describing a moment in your summer that encapsulates something about how you’ve changed or what’s good about life right now. One of those moments when you just want to say “click” and capture that atmosphere to remember when things aren’t quite so good. Which isn’t very competitiony unless we all vote on our favourites, but might be a fun thing to do anyway.

  5. Competition - who can kill the most bed bugs?

Sorry, need to think outside the box, or rather house!
Actually, we have been finding less of them lately. We’re having the company come and re-spray today, so hopefully we really are coming towards the end now. We just have to deal with all the stuff that is everywhere in the house.

Sorry, this comment had absolutely nothing to do with weight-loss, so I’d better end it by saying did you spot how I’m now at my lowest weight for, well a long long time! YAY!

No change this week. I am up for a contest but have no clue what to do. Just want to also say that today is my anniversary and I am married to the most wonderful man. God has blessed me richly. I haven’t been around much because my hubby is off work from a broken wrist, so I haven’t been on the computer much. I walked last night and plan on going again daily. Don’t worry Bekki, sounds like you’re on the right path with planning to sort things out and start fresh…sometimes we need that…a fresh start.

    Happy Anniversary Kellie!

I’m definitely up for a contest…I did so well on the last competition we had and I would love to get another one going. I think the competitions really get motivated…I hate to loose…ha ha ha! How about we do another competition similar to the last one? We could do a 10 week or 12 week…and also have the weekly bonus point. We could go ahead and chart out what the weekly bonus will be ahead of time (when the contest starts) that weigh everyone knows ahead of time what is coming (just in case some don’t log on sunday or monday or tuesday or whenver the bonus comes out)…and we can contribute $XX (can’t remember what we did last time) and have the top 2 or 3 winners and give the money back in gift cert to amazon or something like that. I would be willing to help compile list of weekly bonus and track weigh ins or whatever I can help with.

  12. Strange, I thought I’d posted my weigh in too. oh, well, here it is again!

264/245.8/130 (short term goal is -20 lbs.) - 18.2 lbs lost so far.

I lost 3.4 lbs this week. Increased exercise worked. Less appetite, more calories spent, more loss. Goodbye 249ish rut! Hello new lowest weight in years!

on to another week. I’m excited to think I might make -20 lbs this week if I keep at it. Though I had to start Provera today so I might have water gain until my cycle starts (TMI, sorry, Bird, but I don’t have regular cycles on my own, thanks to infertility, and it’s been too long and no, I’m really not pregnant, and it’s time to make one appear). but I’m going to keep trying!

  13. 239.8/224.4/200 (short term goal)
Up .4 this week and I deserve it. I didn’t eat very good, too much snacking at night, although I did good with my workouts.
I’m tired of going up and down 4 pounds for the last couple of months, so I need to re-commit…starting NOW.
I started my food journal this morning and I am determined to stick to it this week and have a great week!

Suggestion for a contest…hmmmm…I like the photo idea as well. Another idea that comes to mind is a poetry contest (although I suspect Blest would win!) Poems (serious, humorous, etc.) weight-loss related. Just a random thought! And, no, I am not a poet!

  15. Weighing at 129.6

Being under 130 makes me smile. I’m sorry, but it does!

My only concern, Cristina, is that 10 or 12 weeks is a bit too long. People seem to lose focus…or is that just me?

Six weeks seems optimal. Hmmm. That would lead us into October… Hmmm.

But then 10 or 12 would be getting us right up to the beginning of the holiday season. ponder ponder…

    Comment by blestwithsons — August 6, 2007 @ 9:19 am |Edit This

  16. i’m up for any new contest, but blest i agree that 10-12 weeks is a bit long. perhaps an 8 week contest, a several week break and then a contest that runs from thanksgiving into the new year to keep us focused?

    Comment by Anne — August 6, 2007 @ 9:29 am |Edit This

  17. I guess 10-12 weeks might be too long and we might loose focus but on the other hand…we should all be trying to stay focused…with or without a comptetion. Either way…I love the competition, I think it helps me…so I’m up for 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 10 weeks, whatever it might be. :)

We could do a survey and see what everyone thinks and then go from there.

Anne has a good idea too…do a shorter contest now and then break and then start another one that takes us through the Holidays, I’m sure the Holidays are hard for everyone and this will give us an incentive to stay on track with our healthy eating.

    Comment by Cristina — August 6, 2007 @ 9:58 am |Edit This

  18. I was thinking of writing a post to ask for everyone’s input on how long our next contest should go and I was wondering under what category to put it in, so I went to TEAM competition to see if it would make sense to put it there. I noticed the first post…looks like at one point there was a Team competition. Not sure how that worked but that’s another idea…to do it as a team. Or maybe we can do a solo competion and then for the next one that will take us through the holidays we can do a team so that we help each other get through the holidays. Just thinking… :)

    Comment by Cristina — August 6, 2007 @ 10:09 am |Edit This

  19. 220/175/168
Up 1.2 back but only back to my original goal. As you see I have had a rethink.

Swollen ankles the last couple of days so may be retaining fluid or not drinking enough. It had been very hot for a couple of days. Back to normalish summer temperatures today. Fortumately the sun has helped in drying all the washing we have been doing here.

Not normal routine so its hard to judge whether I have done more or less exercise. None of the just exercise type but have been working hard all week at cleaning out those dreaded bed bugs. Sorry we keep going on about them but it is hard to think about anything else at the moment.

However holiday is coming up from Saturday so Debs, Bekki and I won’t be logging in for the next 2 weeks at least. We are off to Cornwall in a rented house. We plan to do lots of walking as well as some lounging about and just chilling. We will have each other to help us keep on track with the eating but I guess we will have the odd ice cream or two so hope we can at least maintain while we are away.
David could do with losing a little weight too, HP is the skinny one, she always has been, so she is the one who has the forbidden goodies we don’t buy when she is not around.

Competition sorry no ideas at all but will think more clearly when we are back from hols. Its nice to have challenges although I personally don’t get too stressed about winning or losing. Maybe its an age thing or just I know I won’t win.
Stop wittering on girl. Weigh to go fellow OWOAers.

  20. If there was a team-based competition, could all the goal-tenders be together in a team? That way they could “compete” and encourage one another while having a slightly different agenda than the rest of us?

    Comment by Anne — August 6, 2007 @ 10:57 am |Edit This

  21. I’m at 143 today, some down 2 from last weigh in. Yay!

  22. 152/148.5/128 - down half a pound this week on my unreliable cheapo scale. I’m wondering if I should get a more accurate scale to judge these things…seriously, I could get on it two minutes later and weigh 3 or 4 pounds different, not sure how helpful that is.

I walked/jogged five times this week, so I feel good about that. My husband has suddenly decided that he needs to lose some weight too and has asked me to help by suggesting healthy snacks and making sure our meals our healthier (with 3 little kids supper sometimes gets decided at the last minute which usually means not that healthy). So I’ve been eating fairly well too. I would have liked to see more of a change but I know I need to be patient, and maybe I’m building a little muscle as well.

Contests - I love photography so that might be fun…I’m up for any kind of challenge as well; the team concept might be fun. We leave early early next Monday for two weeks of holidays, so I may not be around for the next two Mondays. My goal is to still be in the 140s when we get back.

  30. Still 205

I exercised a little bit, but I have not been good about watching what I eat. And the little bit of exercise — well, I jumped over a fence three times and hurt for 2 days. That’s how out of shape I am. I have also been jogging in place during the 30 seconds I have to wait while flash curing my t-shirts. As a bonus, it makes the time go faster. Thirty seconds is a lot longer when you are just standing there.
