  1. It seems I’m first :)

My scale says 140 this morning. I feel heavier than that though and I don’t know what THAT means.

  2. 132. No exercise and a hefty Christmas dinner will do that. We’re starting the New Year with a day on the ski slopes. Yeah!

  4. 169.4 - up 3.8 pounds from my lowest ever weigh in of 2 weeks ago. Blame Christmas and far too many goodies.

However I am 26.8 pounds lighter than at the begining of the year. yippee.

  10. the weight watchers scale said 171 on Thursday night — that is my official starting weight the one I am going by b/c it is done at the same time every week –

However this morning on the scale at home it was 169

    Comment by Maria — December 31, 2007 @ 10:09 am |Edit This

  11. Hello! No idea what I weigh, since my scales are at home, but with too much food and not enough exercise for the last week or so, I doubt it’s good. However, I’ve been well behaved today and yesterday and tomorrow I head back to my scales and a new year of good habits, I hope.

  12. 239.8/212/200 (stg)

Seems that I’m still the same compared to last week. I’m weighing on a different scale since I’m out of town, so I hope the scales are the same.

I’m down 27.8 from when I first weighed in on OWOA which was in Feb or March I believe. I’ll have to go back and look at my records at home but I believe that I started 2007 at 250, so that’s 38lbs down this year.

    Happy New Year!

  13. Christina, that’s excellent. Keep off the cookie dough altogether and just think what you could achieve this year ;-)

(Hope you don’t mind me teasing you over the dough! Just trying to keep you on the straight and narrow  )

  14. Blest/Debs - I was 156.5 this morning. Funny thing happened when I weighed in on the WW website. I put in that I was 166.5. I didn’t even notice because that seemed right! Then when I saw that I gained 13.5 lbs in a week (or whatever it said) I realized I was thinking bigger than I am!

Anyway.. I am up from last week, but this time last year I was well over 190 (of course I was pregnant) but my lowest weight prior to this year was probably 168.

I am excited about the new challenge! Love to all! char

That doesn’t seem right.. I was 143 yesterday with light clothing.. I moved the scale to several different places on the floor and even picked it up and shook it and it just kept saying 141.. I am happy about it, but just a little skeptical..

I guess my total is down 27 this year(since Sept 20 something)

  22. 238.2 today (down 3.2 from 2 weeks ago!).

I was 253 at the beginning of 2007. So down about 15 this year. Better than the year before that for sure!

I am happy about losing weight over the course of our 10 day trip at different families. I had to work hard to keep from eating too much of the wrong things, and I couldn’t exercise much at all either, so it’s nice to know that the willpower paid off. Nice to end the year on a loss!

    Here’s to 2008, and more weight off :-) .

  1. As much as I hate to do this…here I go…
    I gained 1lb. :( I’m at 212 this morning.
I totally deserve it. I did lots of baking Friday and Saturday and I’m been munching on cookies since then. I handed out 4 plates full yesterday, so our supply is running low BUT we’ve still got plenty in the house. I’ll just have to have more self control these next couple of weeks. The only reason it’s only 1lb is because I’ve been diligent with my working out.

Ok, gotta run…everyone have a wonderful Christmas!!!

This time last year I weighed 268.8 so I’m down 19.4 on that. I’m so happy that I’ve found my weight loss groove again with a little help from my friends, and expecially blest. Here’s to making even more disappear this year

  10. I like Debs idea of posting her weight this time last year. According to the records on Christmas morning I was 197 but that was my old scale so it was really closer to 207. Now to get the groove on. It’s going to be hard…well, maybe this is the motivation I need. Jeff applied for a job back in WA and has a 3rd interview on the 31st. Traveling across the country can add the pounds (okay it really doesn’t have to but I allowed it to this summer!) but for the last week I’ve used this possibility to motivate me. I want to be much smaller than I was when I went to WA this last summer. At that time I was somewhere around 190 (at least that’s what my new scale would have said. If Jeff goes back in January and I don’t head over until March, that gives me oh, say roughly 10 weeks. Let’s take it a step further and say that when I weigh in on March 3rd I want the scale to say 170.6 or less. That would put me at weighing 80 pounds less then I did when I moved from WA exactly 2 years ago.

Unlike the ones I used to know.

Now I’m eating good food

And in a good mood

To see my weigh-ins getting low…

I’m dreaming of a light Christmas

With every blog post that I write

May your days be merry and bright!

And may all your Christmases be light!!

Up 3 - but that’s good. The Bloat is visiting, and 3 lbs is my smallest gain at that time since high school! So that either means I have actually lost some with the snow shoveling, which should be reflected next weigh-in or I am achieving some balance.

Bekki don’t be discouragd you have got back in control, don’t lose it now. Will try to support you lots over the Christmas break.
Debs excited with you. well done that girl. Cristina wow 3 pounds! Christy and Kellie well done for 1 pound each. Keep going Anne, you achieved a loss. Missy and Tami you both seem plesased and you know your own bodies so hang in there.
I haven’t had that time of the month for the last year so guess I am done with it now. I don’t seem to get any obvious times when I am retaining water but know my weight does vary slightly up and down from day to day.

On that note i will report my lowest weight to date 165.6 down 1.2 from last week. (Goal was 168 - I am 6ft 1in) Since I am not really trying to lose anymore I think I am intrigued rather than pleased but I will take it. Just hoping I don’t get the ‘don’t lose anymore, are you sure you are eating enough’ lecture from my mum over Christmas. I plan to eat sensibly but not particularly avoid anything as I am at goal now. What I really need is to get more exercise into my routine - a new year resolution perhaps.

Weigh-in wonderland

Timers ding - are you listening?

On the tray, treats are glistening.

I think they look fine, but I won’t make them mine.

Walking to a thinner wonderland.

Gone away from Lane Bryant

Smaller size? Love to try it!

I’ll face unafraid any cake that you’ve made

I’m walking to a thinner wonderland!

In the mall I eyeball lots of new clothes

Cause I’m getting smaller all the time

I’ll have lots of fun in all my new clothes

When my hubby tells me I look FINE!

When you shrink, it’s so thrillin’

Healthy food is so fillin!

I frolic and play, the South Beachy way

Walkin to a thinner wonderland!!

Good Morning!!!! I’m feeling a bit spunky this morning- how are you?! So now that I’ve got “Wonderland”s on the brain, tell me what fills you with wonder this holiday season?

  1. Very impressive song. Blest you know how to bring the spirits up! Ok I gained 2 pounds this week. 162. To be honest, I thought I would have gained more, so I was happy it was only 2 pounds. We had a birthday party last night at our house for our 4 and 6 yr olds and I was bad! My goal for the week is to do phase 1 today through Friday and be a bit and only a bit relaxed for all 3 parties. I want to lose those 2 pounds buy next Monday and then I will feel better!

  17. 194.5–I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read it this morning. :) I was worrying the other day that I was at a stand still and would never see 195, let alone something with a 4 in it, LOL. I was bad last week, although not always off plan. Nikki and I had our traditional Christmas street-fair fudge so I’m convinced the only reason I actually saw a loss today was because God sensed that I needed a motivation to stay on PLAN, or perhaps His plan, if you will. So this morning I commemorated my loss with cleaning the kitchen and a eating a big zucchini and onion egg scramble and one piece of bacon.

Great tune…very clever. Christmas blessings to all of you!

Have eaten all sorts of things that are not exactly South Beach but all in all seem to be under control at the moment. Feels ok and that I am not going so off plan that I am likely to put lots of weight back on. I feel I have really changed my eating habits permanently.
Love the song Blest. What fills me with wonder apart from that feeling every year of how did Christmas get so near and I am so behind with my plaaning.
Well I love hearing the readings - check out Char’s blog for lots of reminders. Carols I love and the smell of a real Christmas tree. And sharing the Christmas story with small children who come to it new (even if they heard it last year up to a certain age)

I am down 1.2, which puts me back to where I was before Thanksgiving. :)

I changed my stg, I’d like to be out of the 2-teens by Dec 31st. I think it’s doable, it’ll just be very hard due to the holidays.

    Have a great week everyone!

  11. Guess I should at least do the weigh in before heading out tomorrow…

I consider this a new starting point so my top number is no longer 165 but instead it is where I was last week.

    156/154/35-140 somewhere

After surgery I will have about 6 weeks and then I can resume exercise - light walking to start. I am also doing more vegetarian once I am back in control of my kitchen… LOL that will be about 4 weeks - just around the start of a new year.

It feels good to be back here, btw… :)

  15. 160 still. No change but it was a heavier 160 than last week. I don’t have a digital scale, but it was a fuller 160. I was not a good girl in Disneyland. I didn’t follow plan, but in the up side I didn’t over eat. I was always in control of what I was having even if it wasn’t a good choice. Oh well, its a new week. Onward and upward.

    Blest, I loved your tune!

  17. 196.5…up .5 from last week, but relieved that it wasn’t more after this weekend. I tried to stay on plan as much as possible, and saved my “splurges” for special treats (mmm, Bubba Gumps was fun!). Plus last week I was really having a hard time with cravings…must be that “time?” ;) So overall, not too displeased at a little .5 which hopefully will fall off again tomorrow after tap.

Have a good week and thanks for sharing!

Steady. I lose some, gain a little less and then plateau. I don’t think I am going to make my stg by New Year’s but I’ll keep going.

Great job, Becky! You’ve just encouraged us!

  20. No change still at 166.2. Pleased to be maintaining. I try to eat normally and still avoid some of the carbs that I used to have but really I am eating mostly what I like now. It’s trying not to eat too much and be sensible with snacks to stop me munching the biscuits etc that might be around. I still carry my snacks with me most days but it pays off. I know my appetite is smaller and I can’t take too much sweet stuff. Lets hope I can still maintain through the holiday season. Still getting the compliments which feels great.

I was not happy to see THAT number this morning! (Up 3 from my previously met goal.)
I know it’s mostly water retention for various reasons, so I’m trying not to worry. I’m trying to listen more for God’s view on how I am doing…asking Him to search my heart…rather than the number on the scale.

My goal is to transition from weighing daily to listening to the Lord on how I am doing with food, etc.

  25. I think all of you are amazing. It’s such a blessing to read ‘real’ progress and accounts from you all. I appreciate your honesty and words of hope and faith because it really puts me in renewed perspective. If you can do it, I can do it! I know God doesn’t care how many curves I have, but He does think I can do better, and that’s motivating. Even if I am not losing as much or fast as others, I’m encouraged that the way my body feels inside lets me know I’m doing well. (Plus today someone at work asked me if I’m losing! wow!) Once again, mom was right…I should eat protein for breakfast everyday. God bless you all!

In a sense, I think my current fitness level is already a gift to myself. I’m fitter and slimmer than I have ever been. EVER! I want to keep it all going in the new year, keep going to the gym, keep eating well. I’ve got a good medium term goal of a weekend away in the Lake district in May, when I want to be able to climb lots of mountains/hills and a) not be at the back of the group all the time and b) not be dead (well, very achey) for a week afterwards.

  14. 232/222/149.9

My scale is OBVIOUSLY broken because it’s showing a 1.2 lb increase, even though the past two mornings I was weighing in around 219. Stupid scale! But my theory is over the holidays I was getting 8-10 hrs of sleep, giving my body more time to lighten it’s load, whereas last night I only got 4 hrs of sleep. Oh well.

My fitness gift to myself? Well, I bought myself an ipod shuffle which will be a lot less bulky to work out w/ than my reg ipod. And I need to convince my grandma to give me the treadmill that’s collecting dust in her garage. Oh, and go back to the gym. That will be good, too. I’ll be in 2 weddings next year. One is for my friend Greta who’s marrying John, my “trainer,” so it might be good to go back and see him and see what he can do w/ me by the time the wedding comes along in May.

Boo–I doubt the scale is broken. As females, our weights fluctuate for a number of reasons. Seriously. I know it can be frustrating, but the good news is it can go both ways–down as well as up.

Well, I hate that I have a gain BUT I’ll take 1.2 considering how I ate last week and no exercise. So, I’ve got some work to do to get where I was before my vacation.

Fitness gift? Hmmm…well, I have 3 gym memberships already…ha ha ha! And yes, I use them…well, 2 out of the 3. And I have an mp3 player (dell dj) but I sure would like an ipod (but can’t justify it since i already have an mp3). I would also like bicycling shoes since I started a spin cycle class BUT I don’t need those either. So, I think I’ll just continue using my gym memberships and be happy.

  20. Brandi, I was just being facetious, as usual. And I assume that scarf hint is for me, since I’m the accessory queen of the fam.

Speaking of scarves, I mean to point out earlier to our English friends that the scarf I’m wearing in the pic w/ Brandi is a summer scarf from Accessorize. I love that place!

And Christina, I hear ya about not feeling justified in buying a 2nd mp3 player. I got my ipod shuffle from the online Apple store and it’s refurbished, so it was $30 cheaper. That made me feel a bit better about it. Or you can always ask for one for Christmas. Here’s the link if you’re interested: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=44BD9AA2&nclm=Certified

  25. Do any of you South Beachers have new tips on snacks that don’t need preparation or refrigeration? I’m going to a conference and am worried that I may need a nibble between meals…perhaps fruit? I’m in phase 2, thank heavens!

    btw, thanks Nikki!

  26. I always carry nuts they are so portable. Fruit is ok but don’t overdo it. Veg sticks don’t take long to prepare with houmus, I pack it in an insulated lunch box with an icepack but don’t know if that is possible for you if you are away from home. And baby bel lights are easy to carry but again probably not good too long away from the fridge.

    Comment by Elly — November 26, 2007 @ 2:53 pm |Edit This

  27. Elizabeth, for snacks I’ll usually do a South Beach Diet snack bar or I’ll take some turkey slices with a Babybel Light Cheese or nuts like Elly suggested.

  33. Hi everyone,
Blest who goes to the same church I do turned me on to this website. Speaking of turning, she made my head turn when I saw her and saw how much of change she had made thanks to South Beach and the Lord. I have tried off and on but most guys don’t really care about losing weight so I was basically on my own. I played sports in High School and for the last year I have started to go back to the gym and work out everyday. I have gone down a waist size however, I want to look like I did back in college. I told my doctor I just retain water but he said, ” So does the Hoover Dam” Sometimes, I just tell people, I am a recovering anorexic. Ok Ok, just kidding, I spend 20 years in broadcasting the last 4 anchoring the ten o’clock news. By the way, tv adds 20 pounds to you. Since 1990 I have been teaching Journalism at the University of Texas at El Paso and also reporting for NPR. I also host four talk shows and teach College writing and Public Speaking part time at the University of Phoenix,
Well enough of that, Lord willing with Blest’s help and encouragement along with you all and of course the Lord I will be able to shed about 30 pounds.
You all have a great evening. I am bushed after grading what seemed like stacks and stacks of essays.

  34. Louie, welcome! I’m glad we have another dude on board. ;-) I need to drop 20 more pounds so hopefully we’ll both get to goal around the same time.
