With the New Year, my husband and I have decided that I need another diet plan… You see, I stopped putting stuff in my mouth and started putting it in shopping bags instead! What with my hobbies, my changing size, and a tendency toward compulsive behavior, I’ve become quite the shopaholic!
And let’s face it, it’s interesting trying to maintain a decent wardrobe while your size changes. I’ve been dropping about a size a month and I do NOT want to wear baggy clothes. And not just because of vanity, either, though that is a factor. Baggy clothes can make you think you have leeway to eat…you know it’s true! That’s why sweatpants for me are verboten unless it’s almost bedtime or I’m sick. (so yes, I’ve been in sweats for the past three days. My skin hurts when I have a fever so blue jeans are unthinkable)
ANYWAY…
I’ve been thinking about fashion and funds and suchlike. And thinking about fashion leads me to my blogging buddy Rebecca who covers all things fashionable at her blog The Space Between My Peers. I asked Rebecca if she would write some pertinent posts for us about dressing for the dimensionally daunted and dealing with frocks and finances when your fit is in flux. She graciously over-looked my o’erweening and obnoxious tendency to aggressively alliterate and is temperately taking the matter under cautious consideration. In the meantime, she directed me to this post in her archives which has some great tips! Go Read It and say Hi! (then she might write more for us! ) I especially like the last one:
Although it is easy to overlook under garments, a well-fitting bra makes a big difference in how slim and trim you look to the world.
If you’ve lost weight - even five or ten pounds - get out your measuring tape and double check your foundations. I did mine recently and was delighted to find that I had gone down one size in band and two in cup!! YAY! After nursing for four years of my life I thought I was stuck with a chest like one of those opera singers with the blond braids and the Viking helmet. Getting the right support has indeed made a BIG difference in my appearance and the fit of my blouses…plus it gives me hope that I will not grace the pages of National Geographic anytime soon…
yes…I’m feeling silly today. I think it’s the fever
I haven’t gone to read the link yet. I just had to say AMEN to the bra thing. I have a thing about bras, you see. I get fitted every year (it is free in finer department stores) and think the world would be a more beautiful place if every woman would get herself in the right bra. The bigger you are, the more you need it! And cheap bras? No way.
I get a bit excited about this subject, but it is my calling. Someone needs to speak for “the girls” who are being neglected and abused all over the country.
The right bra can make you feel like a new woman. Look like one too!

It’s challenging enough to develop a decent wardrobe even when you aren’t changing sizes! I applaud you for choosing to wear clothes that fit; I always find myself sticking my tummy out when my pants are loose.
Now THAT’S attractive.

Amen about the bra!!! My hubby never knew what
heI had until someone gave me a gift certificate to a larger womans store. Alas, that was back home and I can’t find a store like that here that actually sells my size and I HATE ordering over the internet.Comment by Tami — January 8, 2007 @ 9:46 pm
I’m currently stuck at the I have one pair of trousers and one bra that fit, and even they don’t fit that well. (and I love the fact that I just told that to the whole world!) I think I need to go and be measured properly because I’m not having much luck finding any on my own.

De-lurking to say the bra thing is SO true. I read somewhere that most women are wearing bras that are too big in the band and too small in the cup. After gaining weight last year I went up a couple sizes, and, well, “my cup overfloweth”… but good bras are so expensive on a student’s budget that I put off buying new ones until a few weeks ago, and the difference proper-fitting bras make really is remarkable.

I was wearing the wrong bra size, too, until last year! When I got fitted and got a really nice bra, it was like instantly losing 10 pounds! Now I’m back in nursing bras, and can’t find any that I like As soon as I lose about 15 or so, then hopefully the ones I have will fit and then I’ll like them.
