I’m out of town for work this week and will be in a hotel room and eating out from now through Thursday… which is fun, because I’m excited to explore the city I’m currently in (Vancouver!) and also because I’m geek-ishly excited about all the stuff I think I’m going to learn.
However, I’m going to be eating out all week. I just went to the grocery store (my hotel room has a mini fridge!) and bought fruit for healthy snacks. Now I’m looking for suggestions for things to order at restaurants for both lunches and dinners. What do all of you like to eat when you’re out that’s healthy? For lunch? For dinner? I’ll go crazy if I eat salads all week for lunch and dinner….
Thanks!
Vancouver, BC? Cool! What a fun city. If you can, go check out Granville Island. There’s a funky market with a cool shopping and food choices.
When eating out, I tend to look for grilled items, dinners that come with veggies, less sauces, etc. Don’t know if that helps… I’m sure Blest has some great suggestions.

I also do a lot of grilled salmon or chicken with veggies. You can always get a double portion of veggies instead of a fattening side, or order some sort of burger or chicken sandwich without the bun.
Have fun exploring!

I forget..what program are you on?
Basically, avoid sauces and white stuff like rice and potatoes. I love Chili’s fajitas with no tortillas- I just fork up the stuff and dip it in salsa. And they have a Guiltless Grill Salmon with veggies and black beans that is YUMmy! You can’t go wrong with an Outback steak - and they do quite well with their steamed veggies. Let’s see…obviously a grilled chicken salad is great. I like BKs the best. Avoid Chinese unless you can do the grill thing where you pick out your own stuff and watch them cook it. In addition to hidden fat, Chinese is loaded with MSG which is derived from beet sugar - that’s why you get hungry again right after you eat it.
I wouldn’t go Italian. Mexican is good - just watch the cheese.
And if you have a mini-fridge, why not get some deli turkey and some whole wheat pita or tortillas and make your own lunch? We always do that on trips. Turkey roll ups and lots of raw veggies and fruit. That way dinner tastes even better and we save money. (but then you’re on an expense account… )
DRINK WATER!!!!
And I assume there is a hotel gym/pool?
There is no reason you can’t come back lighter than when you left, missy!

I think that most nice restaurants will leave off any bad things, like butter or sauces, if you ask them. Or have them brought on the side. But, I won’t try that in a French restaurant

What about one of those stir-fry places where you choose the ingredients and then they cook your food in front of you? That way you’ve got total control over what goes into it. I went to one of those this weekend for a friend’s birthday, which was the first time I’ve eaten out since starting South Beach and it made choosing something good to eat really easy.

That’s my other sister - pigwotflies! It’s my big sister. We’re turning into a south beach family!
Sorry Anne, I’ve got no idea about eating places in the states, but going for grilled stuff, or having a ‘make it yourself’ pitta or wrap meal sound like a plan!
