Comfort (?) Eating (Debs)

I’m out babysitting tonight, and I usually end up doing a bit of channel hopping, trying to decide which program will rot my brain least (or something ;-) )! Anyway, having decided I really didn’t want to watch ‘The Wedding Channel’ I settled down in front of You Are What You Eat. Now some of what Gillian McKeith says should definitely be taken with a pinch of salt, but tonight some of the things she was saying really struck a chord with me.

I can’t remember her exact words, but she was talking to someone who had just eaten two chocolate biscuits in response to having an argument with her daughter. Gillian said ‘Did they give you comfort? Did they make you happy? Did they deal with the emotional issue or just try to mask it?’

I know that as well as tackling my eating habbits I need to tackle my mental processes. I need to teach myself that food does not comfort you. It cannot make you happy, and in fact will probably make you unhappy. It’s a vicious circle really, getting unhappy because of the way you look, eating more, which makes you more unhappy. I also need to tackle the boredom eating, and the not enough exercise. Hmmm, looks like I’m going to be busy for a while!

  1. ((hugs)) I have emotional stuff (and boredom) that goes into my eating patterns as well. I think when we recognize what we’re doing, the next step is to figure out how and when to stop ourselves in the process before it leads to the binge.

((hugs)) to you girl…it’s a journey!
