Major goal achieved (and a small lesson in modesty)! (Mandi)

Yesterday when I went to the gym I only had time for cardio.  I got on the treadmill and started running at 4.3 miles to see how long I could go for. 5 minutes passed and I thought I could do another 5 — those passed and I thought maybe I could actually run a whole mile without stopping. When I reached the 1 mile mark I almost started crying! I have NEVER been able in my entire life to run a full mile. Even when I was a size 5 in highschool I always had to walk part of the mile in gym class. Better yet I actually ran 1.75 miles and then had to stop because we have a 30 minute limit on the treadmills and I needed to give myself a 5 minute cool down. So I ran for 25 minutes straight!!

As a side note to those who also work out at the gym — at our place the cardio room overlooks the gym floor.  Yesterday the ladies were doing a tone and sculpt class right in front of the treadmill area. They were lying on their backs on the big balancing balls and I kid you not I could see more than any person should see of a non-spouse!! I was so thankful my dear husband was not next to me! I guess this is a note that even with these awesome body transformations — we need to continue to show modesty. I know this is harder in the gym when you just want to be cool — but just be aware. I think it is helpful to bend over in front of a mirror and see what sort of view you are giving people. I also raise up my arms and bend forward to make sure I’m not giving any belly shots or rear shots (YIKES!!). I think shorts are fine for running in but if you are going to be stretching or lifting weights it may be wiser to wear a cropped pant that at least goes to the knee.  I was a bit embarrassed that I was able to describe in detail some of the undergarments worn by my fellow gym attenders. Can you imagine how distracting this could be for a man??!!!  And finally when I wear a button up top look at your self from the side in a mirror to make sure it is not gaping too much. 2. You go, girl!!!! And you are so right about modesty…at the gym, we ladies often don’t think about the men’s perspective and we need to remind each other to be modest. We certainly can’t count on the example set for us by fellow gym members or magazine ads!

  3. Congratulations on the running!

And, I know what you mean about the gym. I don’t care how skinny you are. Some things are better left to the imagination. That goes for men too. If your shorts are baggy, wear some of those fitted boxers underneath, please.

  8. I wear a tank top under all most everything, and tuck it in. Most of the time I wear 2 tanks. I do something that matches or “goes with” my outer wear for the second one and I don’t tuck it. You know that cute teen thing. The way pants are cut now lets a lot hang out or over, yuk! I would die if that JUNK was in sight for anyone to see. Even at the gym!!
So glad you brought that up!!
Great job on the run!! Keep it going girl!!!

  9. Good reminder. I’ve always been really modest and my DD seems to be following that lead (so far). Swimsuits are terrible for us to buy each year - DD is LONG torso and needs a tankini but wants NO skin showing at ALL where the two pieces overlap.

We’ve already returned 6 suits this year. :)
