Number Crunching

At the original site for this blog, we had a link to Calorie Count.  Being a bit flaky, I apparently forgot to include it over here…and then promptly forgot about it. But today I needed to get the numbers on CJ’s cookies, so I remembered this marvelous site!

Calorie Count has the nutritional information for foods galore, plus information on restaurants.  One cool feature is that they not only give you the standard nutritional numbers, but also “grade” the food and tell you about the nutritional plusses and minuses.  For example, here is the breakdown of something I eat almost every day - Canned Pinto Beans.  Looking at that data, I can see that I’m getting great protein, and good stuff like selenium, iron, and phosphorus.  HOWEVER, I am also getting WAY too much salt.  Ah ha! Now I know why I’m retaining so much water!    Back to making my own beans for me!

So…check out Calorie Count! They have a food journal feature too - I’ve never tried it. But if I don’t get out of this plateau soon, I just might!de accessoire casinoringtone fool actprofit non credit consolidation addwordssaturday casino morning at accident seminoleringtones ring ring ring actorcredit adjuster canadacasino rtg achactual song ringtoneMap

  1. Blest,

You may already know this, but it is super-easy (and SUPER-cheap!) to make beans in a crock pot. Just prepare (sort, rinse, soak, fresh water) and put ‘em in the crock for as long as it takes depending on quantity and amount of heat (anywhere between 4 and 12 hours). You can wait until the end to add salt or you can add it at the begining; cooking time will just be longer.
