I dream of clothes. Dresses mostly. Flowery dresses, 60s op-art print dresses, beautiful feminine but not girly dresses, cute short dresses and long swishy dresses, stylish, funky (in the British sense) individual dresses made by me, vintage dresses. I love clothes, i love dressing up, but clothes shopping for far too long has been depressing. For a start, there are all the shops it’s not even worth stepping into. However lovely the clothes, I know they’ll be nothing to fit me. Then, in the shops I do venture into, everything I try on looks odd. There are bulges in the wrong places and often something designed for a size 12 has been sized up and looks odd. Then there’s the dreaded big girl shops, where the fabrics are awful and the prints worse. Add in being over average height (I’m 5′ 10″) and despair sets in.
What would I wear in my wildest dreams? Beautiful, eccentric clothes by designers well known and obscure. Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen. I love window shopping in designer boutiques and vintage clothes shops. I’d love to wear 1920s flapper dresses, 1960s mini dresses, 1930s tailoring, the unique, the odd, the no-one else would wear it but me.
I dream of beautiful clothes. Of being able to buy clothes anywhere. Of garments that look stunning and just my style. Of being able to wear exactly what i like without worrying about whether it makes me look fat(ter). And I will.
Now, if only I could find a way to shrink my feet.
Great dream, Bekki! I have the same one. The thing that stops me most is $$. Also, a bit of a lack of courage

Oh how I too have that dream. To just walk in ANY store and buy something that would look so cool and sexy. Right on girl, keep up the good work and you will be there in no time. Thanks for sharing your dream with us.

Oh, what fun! I am looking forward to hearing more about the shopping/sewing/hunting spree.

Can I come shopping with you? I ADORE dresses…particularly vintage. So, you sew huh? Yah! Something in common. I recently picked up this great red with white polka dot material for a got where I’m going dress. You know, one to make and hang on the wall to look at and admire for however long it takes me to fit into it. I want to do it up in the Lucille Ball style. I ADORE the late 40’s and 50’s.
I loved reading about your dream…maybe because I have the same longing. I hope you don’t mind it I copy, paste and print this off to hang up and look at as a reminder of what we are all working for.

Aw, thanks Tami. No I don’t mind at all. Hey, making something to aspire to fitting into is a fab idea. Although at the moment I’ve idea where I’m going to end up. I’m already a size I’ve never been before.
