Remember I shared with you the picture of the purple pepper we’d found at the supermarket? Well I’m finally remembering to tell you my verdict on it…
The first surprise was when I cut it open. It was actually very green inside, and also very thin. Tastewise it was quite like a green pepper, and actually a little bitter. We’ll try it cooked as well and see if that’s any different (we just had it as salad so far). My advice would be buy it because it’s a cool colour and a bit funky, but if you want it for the flavour stick to red or yellow!
Debs, I grew bell peppers in my garden again this year and I decided to leave a few on a bit longer to let them turn colors and I wound up with a dark purple color on two of them. They were thinner like you talked about but pretty good and strong tasting. I am guessing just ’cause they were homegrown… I am with you on using the red, orange and yellow for better flavor. I stirfry with those a lot. Looking forward to more purple pepper adventures from the UK…
