Quote of the Day (blest)

Life itself is the proper binge

~ Julia Child

How have you been avoiding life and binging on food instead?

What does it mean to binge on life anyway?

Read John 10:10 and apply it to this.

  1. This makes me think of what the author of French Women..Fat was saying and with which I agree. Not all hunger is physical. We may feel we want “something” and automatically go for food. But maybe what we are really needing is a different sort of feast. Of the eyes, perhaps. Or the ears. Or touch. Or the affections, or the heart. The mind, too.

I think if we suck up everything we can in any given moment, if we see the goodness of God in all the things of our life, we are filled up. Those who God calls to Himself are given “spiritual eyes” through the Holy Spirit and can see what others cannot. God is in the smile of a child, the hug from a friend, the touch of a loved one, the colors of a sunset, the complexity of our bodies, the order of mathematics, the diversity of peoples, the power of His Word, the sacrifice of love, and so on. When we notice Him in all things, we cannot help but be filled up. I think this is part of the abundance of life that is in Christ.

I don’t think I am expressing myself very well, but there you go. I look forward to reading others thoughts.

  2. Laura - I think you expressed that VERY well! I was thinking in the same direction.

This quote reminded me of another about binging on God and this verse came to mind:

“Taste and see that the LORD is good;” Ps 34:8a

I think most often when we turn to food, it is out of a valid need for something other than food.
