[Now that would be a great post about looking at biblical things and reading the bible and all sorts of things like that, but since I’ve already got something else to say, I’ll have to leave that post to someone else for now.]
I was thinking last night about a phrase that my parents used to say to my sisters and I when we were little - “Your eyes were bigger than your tummy”. Now if anyone hasn’t heard that before it probably sounds pretty odd, but it basically means that you wanted to put more on your plate than you were actually able to eat.
On the whole I think phase one of South Beach has taught me that I don’t need such big portions of food and I can be and am full with less. However, I still feel I’ve got some way to go with the re-training my eyes part of it. When food is served up on a plate it’s fine, but when I’m putting bits together, say from a buffet or from leftovers, I still find myself getting more than my body actually wants or needs. Part of it is probably the ‘comfort food’ attitude - “I’m gonna grab it and have it cos I need\deserve it”, but part of it is probably just that I need to adjust to looking at less food and knowing that it is enough.
(Oh, and a quick aside - I’m a bit indecisive about category choosing, so if anyone think I should have put something in a different category please let me know )
I have had this issue too. That’s why I have begun using a smaller dinner plate. When I remember to do it, it really helps with portion control and not really noticing that I am eating less.
Also started using a larger salad bowl for my greens and veggies;)

I think your category is just fine! And this is a great point for the holidays especially! We’ll have to post more about this!

Debs-
I know exactly what you mean about that. Retraining the eyes/hands that grab the food - on how much I “really” need to eat to live

That is one of the biggest challenges for me. Especially living in the United States where everything is super-sized! I am trying to get in the habit of one serving per meal - no seconds. And if we go out to eat I mentally cut the whole thing in half before I even take the first bite. Man, some restaurant portions are gigantic!
