Colorado Bound (blest)

I am so excited! This Sunday, the Blest clan is hitting the road for Colorado Springs! This will only be the second time in our family history that we have gone on a trip that wasn’t either for a)a military move or b)to visit family. Though the military and family both have something to do with the trip.

My husband has to attend a week long class, and we decided we were tired of being left behind while he goes and sees all sorts of cool places. (yeah - like his last deployment. He went to Mallorca, Israel, Spain, Greece… I stayed home and changed diapers. Poor military men my tuckus! ) But I was a little anxious about being on my own in a strange town with the boys all day for five days. Enter the flash of inspiration! My parents always go to Colorado at this time of year anyway…so I asked them to rearrange their itinerary and spend some time with us in Colorado Springs! Much to my shock, they agreed. So I will only be on my own on Thursday and Friday. I figure we’ll spend more time in the hotel room on those days. Maybe I’ll get brave and take them to Focus on the Family. After all, if I lose a kid there or someone has a fit, FOTF people ought to be a little more helpful.

Being a rather obsessive person, I have no intention of taking the week off from my healthy living or this website. (oh yeah….I’m taking my laptop!) My plan is to only eat out for dinner - and eat the South Beach way even then. (no starches, lots of veggies, watch the fat) I have planned to allow myself one treat… like maybe one really good dessert that I can share with my family. My mom recently started South Beach too, so I will certainly have moral support. I hope to be able to use the hotel gym in the mornings to stay on track with exercise, but I figure we’ll also be doing tons of walking around. We plan to visit Pike’s Peak, the Zoo, and who knows what else?

I just wish some of you guys lived along the way! To take a trip and not meet any bloggers…what’s up with that?!

  5. Yes, both Pike’s Peak and Garden of the Gods. Also, around the back end of Pike’s Peak (it will be a pretty good drive) is Florrisant Fossil Beds ( http://www.nps.gov/flfo/ )

We were there two years ago (had the brakes fixed before going up Pike’s Peak)

    Enjoy!

  7. I miss the Rockies!!! When I was in 6-10th grade we lived in Calgary at the base of the Canadian Rockies and that was my favorite place EVER that we lived while I was growing up. Being able to look out the window and see the mountains almost every day was such a blessing. :) And I seem to always do better eating when traveling for some reason. I usually watch my husband chow down on beef jerky and doritos the entire time in the car, and just remind myself of the stomach ache I would get after eating all that, that he seems to be immune from and it turns me away completely. :)
