Don't look at the cookies (blest)

So I’m just wondering…What is your most tempting holiday food? What is the one treat that you figure it just isn’t Thanksgiving or Christmas without a taste? I’ve been pondering that for myself for awhile, trying to figure out what, if anything, will I allow myself as a luxury come the holiday season. I’m still not sure what the winner is. It could be the Cinnamon-Apple Cake that my Dad and I both love for breakfast on Christmas morning (perhaps if we make it with whole wheat flour and turbinado sugar…). Or maybe it’s the Cowboy Cookies that are my special favorite, just the smell of them says “Holidays” to me. (and they are terrific, aren’t they Anita? ) And I really can’t think of a way to health-ify them enough to make them guiltless. Two sticks of butter. One cup each of brown and white sugar. White flour. Oy.

The cookies are foremost in my mind right now, because I made a big batch for the family that kept our boys last night. Of course, my boys ate a few while at their house, but a few dozen were left there to hopefully leave a sweet memory of my little gang of four. There would be no problems, except I had some cookie dough left. Enough to make about a dozen more today. There are seven cookies sitting on the cookie sheet right now. Seven crispy, crunchy, buttery, oat-y, chocolatey…..NO! NO!

Whew. It’s okay. I whonked myself and I will not eat a cookie. But I think they may be the winners in the “What treat will Blest allow herself this Christmas” competition. So what about you? What will be your biggest temptation, and how are you going to handle it?

  1. Yes, Blest, those are some mighty good cookies! I found a chocolate chip oatmeal recipe on the Internet that’s not too bad for being a litte bit more healthy. Maybe I’ll post it sometime. Really, it’s the cookies that makes it the Holidays for me. I’ll just have to bake and give them all away this year.

  2. Cookies–yes. And guess who is the hostess with the mostest for the Christmas Cookie Exchange for the church? The lady herself. There are some fiece bakers in the body of Christ, let me tell ya.

But really, I think my biggest downfall will be fudge, peanut butter fudge to be exact.

  3. Sugar cookies. Hands down. No contest. I make AWESOME sugar cookies. How am I going to handle it? I’m only going to eat them on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. And some fudge. And pumpkin pie. In fact, knowing that I am going to allow myself to cheat on those two days has kept me from cheating. I know that I have something to look forward to. I’m not even going to cheat on Thanksgiving.
