Gentle Nudge - Tami

Dearest Ladies,

I was awaken about 2 this morning with a phone call from my Mom. My Dad had a heart attack late afternoon. He’ll be 49 the end of this month. Yes he’s young and no he never takes care of himself.

You know, we get in these train of thoughts that go something like, “Why do I really need to worry about loosing weight? I’ve always been healthy. Always.” Or, “Oh that won’t happen to me.”

It can happen to you. To anyone of us. God gifted us with life on this earth. With a life where we can experience joys, sorrow, suprise, love and so many more things. We experience so many happy days. The day we come to know Jesus as our personal savior and friend, the day we marry, the birth of a child(ren) (whether our own or belong to someone that we love dearly), watching these said children grow and learn, the marriage of our children…the list goes on and on.

It is written that our body is the “Temple of the Holy Spirit.” He dwells in us. I’m not sure where I’m going anymore but I’ll leave you with this. For the next few days when you think about exercising or when you are remember my Dad and that he’s only 49. When you want to eat something not so great remember him and then think about your life and your family and decide if it’s worth it. It may seem like just a bite but how many bites have we taken over time and gotten to where we are. After all, you can’t have a dollar without that last penny.

~ I want to add that my Dad turned his back on God a while ago. Jeff and my prayer is that he will turn back to God. That he will consider his salvation and cling to our heavenly father. If or rather when my Dad does pass from this world I would like to rest confident that I will see him “Some bright morning”.

  3. (((((TAMI))))) I am praying for your Dad and for your family.

My Dad had a heart attack almost 2 years ago and he had always been pretty health conscious before that other than the fact that he is an alcoholic (recovering). He is going to be 70 in April and I think the reason he did not have one sooner is just because he had always exercised and stayed busy and ate pretty well. He is doing FABULOUSLY now and eating better than he has ever eaten in his life.

We can all make those changes and it makes a HUGE difference in our health. My Dad’s heart attack was a wakeup call for me and my brothers, too. Dan’s(my hubby)Dad had a heart attack when he was just 50 (over 15 years ago)and has had two heart surgeries since and continues to live a very unhealthy life.

We have been seeing signs in Dan of early issues, too. He has severe hypertension and we have made lots of changes so he gets to stay and watch his children grow up and he owes me a trip to Europe, too, once the kids are grown. ;)

You can change this for you and your family. (((TAMI)))

Love ya girl and will continue to pray… Please let us know how he is doing as he recovers. :)

  7. So sorry, Tami. I pray that he heals in body and spirit. This sounds similar to my dad. He is a pastor and was always busy trying to make ends meet. It seemed like he never had it easy. He broke his hip when he was 34 and that caused him misery until his hip replacement. He loved to eat and I think it was the one of the few enjoyments that he had. Then he was diagnosed with prediabeties. The Lord showed him that his gluttony was as much of a sin as anything else because it hindered him in his service of the Lord. He lost so much weight and is not controlling the pre-d with exercise and diet (though he forever teases my mom about her not letting him eat).
You post is so good. We have to think about what we are doing to our bodies with the type of “fuel” we put in.
