I’m kinda down today. My baby had her first bottle of formula this afternoon. It’s been kind of apparent that my milk was drying up, but I’ve been determined to keep trying with her and trying all sorts of stuff to keep my milk supply up. If someone has recommended it to me, I’ve tried it! However, last night, it was so clear that she was not getting enough (if anything) from me and was just crying in her little bed because she was hungry. With my first girl, I dried up when she was exactly six months old, and I was hoping I could continue with this girlie a little bit longer … I guess the threee extra weeks count, right?
Anyway, I’m feeling bummed, even though I know it’s the right thing to do with where she is right now. And, on the plus side, there is the distinct possibility that she might sleep more at night … she hasn’t slept through the night yet, and when she woke to nurse last night around 2 a.m., it was again obvious that I was having to put her back in bed without her tummy being full.
Just needed to share…

Good job, Mommy! You gave her a great start with all that wonderful breast milk! I’m sorry it’s ending before you want…

Hang in there! I’m happy for you that you were able to nurse (I wasn’t) and sad that little babies grow up too fast! Keep your eye on that full night’s sleep!

Wonderful job for nursing as much as you could! Hoping that full night’s sleep comes soon!
I had to start supplementing when Ella was only three weeks old, and cried all the way through the first couple bottles. She’s now going on 15 months, and I’m thinking it might be time to fully wean, as she probably gets more comfort than milk by this point.

Stephanie,
By breastfeeding for 6 months you have provided your daughter with SOOO much!! She is now less likely to get breast cancer, ovarian cancer, hip fractures, respitory infections, eczema, asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, childhood cancers, SIDS, and less cavities!!! You have done a GREAT thing for her by breastfeeding for this long.
I will be praying for you today.
