kickin up my heals

Okay…so because I am your fearless leader, I did three new workouts this week. (don’t worry - it only counts as fulfilling the challenge once) The first one was “technically” new as I had tried Tae Bo once before. But the videos were much too hard so I sent them to Sarah. She was supposed to send me hers because they were getting too easy for her. She actually sent me mine back PLUS hers. (in the same package with my quilt I might add) I got Tae Bo-ooty!

Saturday I did the first Tae Bo dvd. It’s called The Power Within and is one of Billy’s Christian videos. I like that because he quotes Scripture during the workout and all the women are decently clothed. I made it through the whole workout - which delighted me. But OH did I hurt for a day or two- or three. But I think it was a good hurt.

Tuesday I was ready for more, so I did The Strength Witihin. This one was harder for me, but still fun. Color me violent, but I like all the kicking and punching. I also like that, for the most part, the moves aren’t too complicated. And there is another advantage to Tae Bo…

Boys Like It!! Instead of having to stop exercising and deal with unsupervised mischief makers, I had lots of company in my workout. True, this leads to its own difficulties - but they’re all learning that you better give Mama space, or you might get kicked! (no I didn’t hurt anybody!)

Finally, today I tried one similar to the one Anne did. Actually, I thought it was the same one until I just reread her post! This one is from Prevention and is called Dance It Off. Just like the one Anne described, there are four workouts: Hip Hop, Latin, Jazz, and Ballet. I got through Hip Hop, but Latin and Jazz frustrated me. I plan to try again though. (I was a little hampered by already being sore from Tae Bo and bike riding this week) And I LOVED the ballet section. I’m thinking I will do this one every day.

Whew! I’m tired now.

  1. O dear I keep reading about everyones’s workouts and feeling really guilty
I do want to do some exercise but unlike you all I have never owned a keep fit video of any kind so I can’t just get one out of the cupboard. I did go food shopping today so I suppose I might have found something in the supermarket but it didn;t occur to me to look, time was tightish anyway. Then the day goes and I just don’t have time for the library or any other shops.
What to do.I appreciated Bethany’s post about mums needing to look after their own bodies. I don;t have little ones anymore but am aware how I am tstill the lynchpin of the family s o ought to be better at taking time to do execise but where. Am i just too busy. Everything that needs to be dome seems to involve, sitting or standing inone place or in a car. Sorry am being very negative but I really am struggling with this. Maybe it may have te be the skipping after all. I think I can do it.

  2. haha! I’m glad that you liked the ballet section of yours… mine was just too much for me. I agree about the Jazz section; sheesh, I never knew that doing jazz hands during the other moves would be difficult!

On that note, I’m off to do the Biggest Loser DVD… because the competitiveness in me is starting to kick into high gear! ;-)

  3. Elly,

Can you try doing exercise in 5-10 minute increments throughout your day? Like, maybe skip rope for 5 minutes in the morning… and take a 10 minute walk outside after lunch (or just park in the furthest parking spot so you have to walk more when running errands)… and spend 5-10 minutes doing crunches and push-ups before bed. Don’t think of it as being something that you have to devote 30-60 min to — just work it into your busy days. You can do it!! We know you can, ok? We’re rooting for you! (We may be competitive, but we’re on your side)

  4. Anne
Thank you. i realise there is a lot I can do and I will try. It just seems a bit of a cop out compared to the rest of you.
O well probably unrealistic to change a lifetime of not being a sporty person to one who exercsises madly!
And I know some people have talked about housework as being their way of fulfilling the challenge so i will take heart and stop being a wimp.

  5. Elly — so long as it’s adding extra movement to your day, it’s not a cop out!! :)

  6. I think the kicking and punching suits me better than dancing. I’m more likely to punch or kick than dance anyway! :D

Tae Bo rocks! I’ll have to get my kiddos to do it with me too! :D

  7. Those dance workouts sound fun. I’ll have to check around and see if I can find one to try. I love to dance!

  8. I forgot to mention how much I love the picture of the boys doing Tae Bo. My son also joined me in Tae Bo this afternoon…just all on his own. He came in about five minutes into the tape and jumped right in. :D

  9. Blest!!! I was nearly moved to tears at how sweet it looks to see your boys exercising along with you! As a momma of two boys I think that is just too cute! I used to own a Christian Tae Bo video (can’t remember the name)and I got rid of it because the ladies were scantily clad so I am excited to try this one. I have it on hold from the library.
