I ran across this blog post, called Maternal health and multiple pregnancies, and thought it would be a good read for you guys! It’s a post that focuses on how important it is to take care of your body, especially if you’ve given birth multiple times. Thought that could apply to bunches of us.
Yes, even as a busy mom, even as a sacrificial mom, even as a mom who isn’t sure how to fit any care of self into the day. You may think that it is selfish to take care of your health; but it isn’t. Think of it this way. The better you take care of yourself, the better you feel. You will have even more to give away to your family and loved ones. I’m pretty sure that they want you around for a loooong time, and you are much more likely to have energy for your grandchildren some day, even great grandchildren - if you allow yourself to look after yourself…now.
Also, I was hoping to combat the thought that you don’t have time to exercise or take care of yourself. It’s important guys!! Very, very important. You don’t have time to NOT take care of yourself!
*Edited to add this quote from another post at Seeking Faithfulness.
Motherhood involves daily self sacrifice, and this is good. Through the daily trials we grow more like Christ and take on His character. Taking care of yourself is not selfish, though, it is doing your part to be around for your husband and children for years to come. Call it good stewardship…because that’s exactly what it is. You only get one chance at this thing called life, and only one body, so you need to do your best with what you’ve been given.
It’s so true! I have a really hard time fitting exercise in, but when I am healthier I have so much more energy and play with my kids a lot more. I was amazed at the difference after I lost weight last year.

Thank you for the link, Bethany. I appreciate it! I know that I sound like a broken record in some of it - but it’s so important for us moms to take care of ourselves!

We do need to make time to take care of ourselves because it IS good stewardship. Case-in-point: I exercise religiously 3-5 times a week. But when the kids start to argue or something comes up I will consistently cut out the warm-up and cool-down. I won’t take time to stretch. Well, I can only do that for so long before my back seizes up and I spend 1-2 weeks walking like a 95 year old! If I took better care of me then I would be there for my family (which I’m not - unless they come visit me in bed!)
