Fun with Friends and Food

subtitle: How to stay on your diet when dining with friends

When changing your eating habits with a view towards a new you, it is important that you carefully choose your companions. Will they be supportive? Will they tempt you to cheat? Will they entice you into misbehavior only to get caught in shame, guilt, and compromise…
Sad isn’t it. Here you see Leann caught in the act of guzzling the maple syrup (from Vermont, no less) and Blest with her hand in the cookie box. Tsk tsk tsk. No no. This is not how healthy eaters dine with friends.

It is important to make sure you’re spending your quality time with people who understand your new goals. For the best of dining companions, invite friends who are also changing their lifestyle and are interested in trying new foods. In truth, that is exactly what we have in Leann and her husband. Plus the kids get along, so tonight was a great mix!

No, we didn’t really cheat. We did something better than cheat. We ate Sesame Crusted Salmon with couscous, Roasted Asparagus, and Broiled Tomatoes. (I didn’t have the couscous, because I’ve already had my carb allowance for the day.) T’was quite yummy. I’ll be happy to post the recipes if you want them. For dessert we had fresh sliced mango, and decaf coffee. We also burned calories laughing ourselves silly with a rousing game of Punch Line. Laughing with friends is so wonderful, you forget about wanting to eat. Of course, being full helps too.

So anyway, there’s our little dinner party. And although it’s partly in fun, I’m totally serious about enjoying time with friends who understand and support your goals. And about the fact that you don’t need junk food to have a good time!
