On the wagon (LL)

Ladies, I never thought I would be saying this and doing so happily, but……. I am soda-free! On Sunday, I drank the last diet soda that was in the house. Well, actually, I shared it with Nick, so I only had half.

As I mentioned somewhere, I have been a big soda drinker all my adult life. There was a time when I drank only diet soda, six to eight a day and thought nothing of it. For financial reasons, with a tiny bit of health concern mixed in, I had whittled it down over the years to two a day. The remainder of my drinking a day was iced tea, up to 3 quarts a day. Shocking, I know!

So now, I drink my half-body-weight in water, and have one glass of tea a day. One! And no soda for three days now. I feel free =) I am so surprised at how easy it has been. And not only am I free of drinking soda, I am free from choosing my grocery store based on which one has soda on sale this week. I would actually bypass healthier food choices because of cost but would make sure I had money for diet coke. God certainly convicted me about that! Now the money that I normally would spend on that useless drink, I can now funnel into healthy, more pricey foods. Like out-of-season veggies and fruits =)

I also never realized how thirsty drinking soda made me. I constantly had to be drinking , carrying a can or a glass with me into every room, for every activity. Now, I am still drinking a lot but not because I am thirsty, but because I am getting in my quota of water, which I now enjoy and even sorta crave.

So, you soda-drinking ladies, I’m telling you, it can be done, ’cause if I can do it, anybody can!

  1. Good job! I had a hard time giving up coffee. But when I finally could make it through the day without coffee, it too felt very freeing. That was something I wasn’t expecting. Now, it’s so nice to know that I can choose to drink coffee, rather than have to drink it.

  2. Yay Laura!!! That’s so awesome! I think Diet Coke must be more addictive than crack - the way Diet Coke drinkers act…

Anita, you just hush up about coffee (grin). Some of us HAVE to drink it!!

  3. WAY TO GO, GIRL!!!!! That is so awesome. :)

We have gone almost completely caffeine free in our home. (still make caffeinated iced tea for hubby and have a glass from time to time) I drink decaf coffee but only need one cup to satisfy the taste. I LOVE the taste of hot coffee. As for sodas we have not bought any for our home in about 6 weeks. It IS freeing! I am starting to crave the water like I used to crave the Dr. Thunder, too and I know I am doing my body so much better.

  7. Good for you … although can I still be thankful that I don’t think he’s called me to give up my diet coke yet? *wink* :) I do need to cut back, though, and this is very encouraging to me that you did it!
