I need help too

Okay, with the question about breakfast, it got me to thinking…I need some help too. I was just put on a new medication that I have to take three times a day on an empty stomach (one hour before or two hours after I eat). This has wrecked havoc on my whole “eating system”. I usually skip breakfast and eat a light lunch at 2 or 3 (if at all). Since joining this blog, I’ve decided to try to eat more regularly (which is healthier) so that I can lose the weight. But now with this new medicine, I’ve found that I am SO hungry in between meals and I can’t snack because it messes with the empty stomach thing. I try to plan my meals so that they are fulfilling. I have cut back on the snacking in a big way (and let me tell you, I was a HUGE snacker), so I should lose some weight there (but of course, I haven’t really yet). Anyway, my problem is the hunger pangs between meals…do you think they will go away over time? Do you think it is psychological? Does anyone have any suggestions for tricking the body when it’s hungry? I have been drinking more water and sometimes that helps. Any ideas? Thanks for the support!!!

  1. Well, it could be a side effect of the medication.

I’ve also been reading about the glycemic index of foods. That might be something you will want to look into. Foods that take longer for your body to process and digest will keep that full feeling longer. Simple carbs, sugars, and such that are processed quickly by the body allow for the hunger pangs to come back quickly. And in the process the simple carbs make the insulin in your blood spike and fall more dramatically. And as always… consult with your doctor.

  2. Maybe some herbal tea with lemon can help with between meals hunger. I find that it works for me when I have an urge to eat after my 8 p.m. nightly cut-off. Sometimes I will add a small orange segment too.

  3. Anita, I never thought about that. Do you have any suggestions of foods that would take longer? I’m sorry but I’m really dumb about this stuff. I think I’ll google it too. Thanks!

Lady Laura, herbal tea!! Now, why didn’t I think of that? I used to drink it all the time and haven’t in awhile! Thanks!
