Are Diuretics Good? (Bird)

First of all, what is a diuretic? Isn’t asparamagoose a diuretic? Isn’t Coke a diuretic? Are those things good for bad because they pull fluids from your body?

Diuretics are only good if a doc has prescribed them because you are retaining water, as far as I know. Since most of are probably aren’t getting enough water, diuretics work against us.

I think asparamagoose acts more like a purifier in that it helps flush toxins and junky stuff from the body. (Could be wrong on that though) Diet Coke would not fall into this category–sorry.

Didn’t edit that properly–sorry.

There are some natural diaretics like asparagus, parsley, and hot water with a lemon. I use (and have been told to by a nutrionalist) these after I have eaten something that is higher in sodium…like fajita’s at a restaurant. They help flush or counter the effect of the sodium (the sodium makes you retain water ya know).
Coke or diet coke so doesn’t fit in this category. I couldn’t believe how much sodium was in that stuff.

so…how much hot water with lemon? And how soon after the salty food do you need to drink it? Would hot tea with lemon do the same thing? Very interesting…

Brandi,
My nutrionalist says that if I am out to eat, as soon as I am done eating as for a cup of hot water and a lemon. It’s like a mug full of water and a lemon slice. As for with tea, I don’t think that it would have the same effect but I don’t know for sure. Definitely not caffinated tea. For me it’s kind of like the 0 calorie…0 anything additives that you can add to water. I just don’t do it because pure water is so good for you.

Ok, so I’m about to try the hot water with lime because I just ate Pei Wei. So, I don’t have lemon, therefore I’m using a lime. Any idea if it works the same?
