It's Monday already?

Good Morning everybody!! How ya doin?!!

Welcome to the last weigh in for June! This year is just flying by! I’m in a rather frivolous mood today (when am I not?). Let’s see… in today’s weigh-in, tell something silly, unusual, weird, or just slightly odd about yourself that we might not already know!

Now….

Report!!

Up 1.8. Not too much of a surprise given the week I had, too many late nights, weird foods at odd times and just plain eating too much. Back on the wagon this week, which started well as I finally managed to go swimming before work. Hurrah! I’m definitely going to do that again.

Hmm, something slightly odd. You’d better ask Debs or Elly! I have synaesthesia: I see numbers, letters, words, days of the week, months with associated colours. I sort of see sound too, not like hallucinations, more as if the two senses - hearing and seeing - overlap slightly. Synaesthesia’s not that uncommon, especially in women, although the more extreme forms are (like people who taste words).

  2. Well to start off I LOVE POLKA DOTS!!!!! This is an on going obsession that have been in my life since the 6th grade. Now they are back in stile and I’ve been too fat to go buy new clothes, so I am looking forward to rewarding myself with some cute polka dotted clothes!!!

    Next, and a bit disappointing…
185/182/160 Down about 3. Hard to tell exactly on my scale. I was really shooting for in the 170s, but all I have been doing is exercising and not really changing my diet. I guess its time to work on that for better results. We are going to S.CA on the 4th and I am determined to drop at least 5 lbs by then! My hubbies family are all really thin and in shape. I was hopping to hit my pre pregnancy weight from our first child by then (175) but too late for that goal, so we will just go for 170s again.
    Sorry for the long comment!

  3. Don’t be discouraged Nikki, down 3 in a week is great. Keep at it.

  5. 210/161.8/150

I am down 2.2 this week! I still have days (like yesterday) when I’m doubled over in pain, so I’m going to have to go back to the doctor again. Or something.

Let’s see - something weird… I can say and sing the alphabet backwards.

  6. 212.8/132.4/135

down 1.4 and a new low! Woo Hoo!

Hmmm. Okay. Silly fact about me… I have a distressing habit lately of answering questions with “Uh-huh. Because I’m cool like that” Like at Barnes & Noble - “Do you have a membership card?” And I say…well - what I just told you I say.

    Because I’m cool like that.

  7. OK, I am at 262. Which is down 1.4 from last week.
That’s 294/262/260 (my longterm short term goal! But I will get there one day, hopefully sooner rather than later!)

Strange fact about me - I bought a dress on Saturday. May not sound werid, until I tell you the last time I wore a dress was probably in my last but one year of primay school, so aged around 10. In my last year they changed the rules so that girls were allowed to wear trousers, so I did! I’ve worn skirts since then, but rarely. Anyway this dress is my outfit for my cousin’s wedding next weekend. And I will show you a picture once I can manage to load it up

    down 1 :-)
Something odd about me–Knowing the end of a movie or book does not ruin it for me. In fact if it is a sad ending, I need to know the ending beforehand or I will be totally disappointed. Only my wonderful hubby, Bird, truly understands this about me. Everyone else, when I ask “is it a bad ending?” or “is she going to die?” Will answer, “I can’t tell you; it will ruin it for you.”

  9. I stayed the same (134.8). I was down earlier in the week, but I was out of town this weekend at a wedding that involved a long car ride. So I’m actually very happy to have weighed-in the same today as last week.

Something odd or silly about me? Hmmm. I like to talk to animals. A lot. To the point where I’ve been caught howling back at dogs who howl in the night.

BEKKI! I think it’s so very, very cool that you are one of those special people. I’ve read a lot about synaesthesia and think that it is FASCINATING. How fun!!

  10. Hee hee…here’s another one about me. I’m uber-particular about my coffee mugs. I have to drink my coffee from ceramic mugs (my parents prefer plastic thermal mugs - ugh!) and they must be ATTRACTIVE. I don’t like drinking coffee from an ugly mug! AND if the mug says COFFEE on it (I have three that do) then you can’t make hot tea in it. But the ones I have that say “Coffee Tea Cocoa” (these are Scrabble mugs with the words spelled out in tiles) - you can make tea in those.

    And I just did!

  11. 212/180/175 -2!! I’m putting short term goals instead of my final. I need this short term stuff right now.

Brandi, I’m with you! I completely understand. I typically read the end of a book first just to know how it ends and then I want to know how it got to that end.

Blest, I am a mug snob too! Certain cups and saucers are too dainty for anything but tea, certain cups, saucers and mugs are to heavy for anything but good ole strong coffee and certain are perfect for coffee or a heavier tea.

Something quirky about myself?…I can’t stand my name being spelled with a “mmy”, pb&j must be eaten with the j on top, I’m a deoderant (sp) freak! (ask my husband, I always have no less than 3 on hand and always put some on before bed)…I shall not divulge more for fear of ruining my image (as if I had one!) ;-)

    Comment by Tami — June 25, 2007 @ 9:35 am |Edit This

  12. 147/131/130 No change.

Blest, it’s a proven fact that coffee does taste better in ceramic. It has to do with the oils in the coffee that give it flavor. :-)

Something weird or funny or silly… Hmmmm… I can’t think of anything. I guess I must be perfectly normal. Ha! How about this - I am constantly straightening things. Even at the checkout aisle of grocery stores. I think it’s from too many years in retail!

  13. I want Anita to come to my house!!!! It could use some good straightening!!!

  14. Sorry I didn’t check in last week. I am down 1 lb from the week before. I was up one last week. So my official weigh-in is 164.5! Yipee! I was so excited. I stayed on plan last week. So far so good this week.

Weird thing about me. I like to make up songs and sing them to my children. They usually involve something gross. :) char

  15. Char, my love, you need to get Take Me Out of the Bathtub - book of silly songs. The boys LUV it.

No change. I’m about to hit Phase one I think. I had thought about it before and decided not to but I think I need the jolt! :D I did make it back to the gym this week.

So many weird things about me…I talk to myself, or the things around me. I’ve had a conversation with socks before. I have a hard time telling my dreams from reality. I dream things and think they really happened. I love rolls dipped in A1…of course, that’s taboo now!

  17. Down to 174 from 176 on June 14th. Have been on vacation ever since then, so I am really happy with 2 lb. loss in 10 days.

Weird or odd: hmm, this could be fun!
I wore a straw hat at the beach—feeling weird and odd, but didn’t care what others thought—I’m on vacation, right? No one knows me!!

One weird thing… hmmm… only one!
I’ve had my nose pierced - twice!

  20. No change for me. I was good when I was at home last week, but snacked a ton while at VBS!

I had decided to start SB Phase 1 today (and even took a salad to a picnic at the park with Bethany and her kids) but the kids and I had just had a stinky morning and we stopped at Sonic and got ice cream on the way home! Not phase 1 (or two or three) but it really improved the mood at my house!

Ok, but now that the ice cream is gone, I’m back on Phase one for the next week :D

    Something unusual about me?
I eat apple cores. Will that do? Its too late at night and I can’t think properly. Debs says I have to add that I eat other people’s apple cores (husband and children only).

  22. Ooh, I forgot…wierd things…hmmm…you already know about my garbage disposal phobia from my bio…oh, I’m car accident prone! I have been rear ended like 7 times. And most of those while stopped at a light or sign, so it’s not my driving!

Bekki, I think synaesthesia is fascinating, too! Do you see music?

  23. 198/182/140 - 1 down.

You guys are so interesting! And I mean that in a good way - so fun. One thing weird about me is I count everything - clouds, seconds at red lights, blades of grass, cracks in the sidewalk. Then I recount to check my first count.

    1-2-3, 3 pounds down, ah-hah-hah-ha!

Up 1 pound. Yikes! I’m backsliding here! I ate like a freaking PIG this past week so it’s no surprise.

I need to have a Come To Jesus time about this.

Unusual fact: I’m a total homebody. Brandi and the kids are the only reason I ever venture out into the world. If I had my druthers, I’d stay holed up in my house and never do anything socially. When the family is out of town or whatever I usually spend ALL of my time in the house. It’s like pulling teeth to even go over to my brother’s house to watch a football game. The funny thing is, when I do force myself to be social, I usually enjoy it.

  31. 253.2 up FOUR. Strange, because I thought I was doing better. I’m sick of losing the same 3-4 lbs over and over again.

Today I am not able to think of something weird. I’m always a bit off though. I’ll think of something later.

  32. Anita-

Hmmm, some come here to vacation. Its in the Sierra Foothills of northeren California. We are 1 hour from Sacramento and 1 1/2 hour from Lake Tahoe. But no fun for you, you’re cleaning my house!!!!!

  33. Ok, I have question…
Does anyone else have the problem I am having???????? When I weigh myself in the am and then again the next day or later in the day, it changes. Now I feel like I’m not really losing anything. I’m back up 2 lbs or so now. What is up? I was good yesterday so I know that isn’t the problem. I’m feeling a bit frustrated and a little down about the whole thing. Maybe I need a different scale.

    Comment by Nikki — June 26, 2007 @ 7:09 am |Edit This

  34. Nikki,

I actually weigh myself daily — always at the same time (right before getting out of bed, after using the restroom, before doing anything else, and with no clothes on). I easily fluctuate 1 pound a day. I personally like weighing myself daily because (to me) it takes significantly less pressure off the Monday weigh-in’s. If I was down on Sunday but up on Monday, I know that I’ll most likely be down again by Tuesday or Wednesday. But if I notice myself trending slowly upwards for 2 weeks straight, then I know it’s time to make changes. If you are someone who has never dealt with any sort of eating disorder and who thinks that daily weighing would be good, I’d recommend trying it (at the same time daily) for 30 days. However, if you know yourself and know that you may have eating-disorder obsessive tendencies, you might want to just weigh-in on Mondays and only Mondays. You know yourself.

My next question is, do you have a digital scale or an analog (the arm that swings around) one? I might recommend getting a digital one. I have the Tanita scale from Bed, Bath and Beyond (yay for 20% off coupons — if you need one, I can mail it to you, I have a billion) that is digital and measures body fat% also — and I love it. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, my email is jenniferannecoyne [at] hotmail.com

  35. *whoops — I weigh myself right after getting out of bed!! not before… sheesh.

    Comment by Anne — June 26, 2007 @ 7:25 am |Edit This

  36. Tee hee. And there I was imagining a clever in-bed weighing system. Anyway.

I ALWAYS find I weigh less on Tuesday morning than on Monday morning. I think it’s the difference between my water consumption at the weekend and during the week and the effect that has on my digestive system. I’m trying to combat it by drinking more at the weekend and trying to stay in my eating routine, but it doesn’t always work.

We all fluctuate during the day, during the week, during those times of the month. It’s the long-term trends that count.

    Comment by Bekki — June 26, 2007 @ 7:34 am |Edit This

  37. I weigh most at the end of the day, because I especially seem to drink a lot in the evenings and once I’m home from work. It doesn’t matter if you’re needing to go to the loo all the time so much if you’re at home than if you’re stuck in a classroom with 30 kids! I do drink lots at school too, in case anyone’s concerned, I just drink more in the evening. And it’s exciting seeing it all come off again by the time you weigh ‘empty’ the next morning! Hmmm, anyway, before I say too much maybe I’d better stop talking.

I think what I was trying to say before I got rather sidetracked was, Nikki, yes absolutely. I can weigh like 4 pounds heavier later in the day than I did in the morning. However I think so long as there’s a general downward trend in the weekly weigh-ins i don’t worry too much. Ok, so I haven’t really had a general tend downwards for a while, but that’s more down to me cheating than anything else!

    Comment by Debs — June 26, 2007 @ 8:15 am |Edit This

  38. Nikki,

Also, remember — to not retain water, we need to drink more, not less. ;-)

    Comment by Anne — June 26, 2007 @ 8:43 am |Edit This

  39. It’s normal to weigh more in the evening than in the morning. Getting up first thing in the morning, we have essentially fasted all night long, so our weight will be less. I also weigh first thing in the morning, but not every day… more like 2 or 3 times during the week to check that I’m not going to have any huge surprises on Mondays.

    Comment by Anita — June 26, 2007 @ 9:36 am |Edit This

  40. My goodness ladies thanks for all the insight! I do want to go get a digital scale! And my only obsessive tendencies are eating too much, not too little. Thank you all for all the advice.
