I did it! I hate to admit it but I must. I’ve done decently lately…until Fri. I still could just go cover up under the blankets and hide. I feel so ashamed. You know, I told myself…”It will not cross my lips. I really thought I was okay. I thought I had this battle. Maybe that was the problem. Maybe I was too cocky. Jeff love them so! While we were shopping on Fri I thought I would get them and make him a treat. No biggy for me right? NOT!!! Oh Blest, I’m sooooooo sorry! Can you please forgive me. No whonkin neccessary for this girl. Do you wanna know what it was that I caved too? Huh? I can barely stand to think it let alone write it….
I had asparagus!
Can you believe I actually liked it this time? Oh it was so good. Nice and tender on the outside yet still just a touch firm in the center. Oh, I think the kids and I will walk back to the grocery store today and get more. I just can’t stay away from those beautiful stalks. How did I manage you ask? I have only ever attempted (multiple times) steamed asparagus. Nada! No Way Jose. My lips are sealed to that stuff. This time I put it in a foil “bag”, sprayed it with “I can’t believe its not butter”, added Morton’s light salt and a bit of thyme. Oh my gosh. I actually savored it.
Sigh…I can’t wait until it’s path crosses my lips again.
*edited to add:
I lined my cookie sheet with foil, placed the asparagus on it, sprayed with “I can’t believe it’s not butter” and then folded the foil over creating a nice, cozy cacoon for the asparagus. I cooked it for 13 min at 375 and then took out and sprinkled with salt and thyme. Covered it back up and cooked for approx. 6 minutes more.
yer a nut.
See….I TOLD ya asparagus was great!! Now you need to try the sesame roasted recipe!

And hey, this might be TMI, but am I the only person fascinated by the effect on asparagus on one’s er, liquid waste?
Something I have in common with Proust at least.

Ya know, maybe that’s why I had a cow about the smell of the bathroom that night. Both Jeff and I thought it stunk and couldn’t place it! I have cleaned it 2x because the smell just seemed to come back (after someone went).

more details please- you put it in a foil bag? did you bake it? broil it? grill it? what? I am totally impaired if I don’t have exactly what to do.
I happen to love asparagus (can’t believe I forgot it in my list of fave veggies).
so a new way to make it would be very very nice
Thank you
(and this was soooooo funny to read!)

Hmmm, I don’t really care for asparagus but since they had this effect on you…I think I’m just going to have to give them a second chance.
Blest, what’s the sesame roasted recipe? If the butter and thyme doesn’t work, maybe I’ll give them a third try with the sesame toasted recipe…ha!
