Extra Extra! Blair's Comments to Post . . . (Blair)

Right here - tee hee….

Welcome again to Char & CJ - good to have ya here :)

Debs - HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!

Anne, I am so stinking proud of you for running a mile girl!! YOU ROCK!! Yes, I got in that sixth minute AND got in just over 2 miles in thirty minutes. This is a milestone for me right now as I ease back into this. This week I’m sticking with the six minutes to solidify my progress before I add on. My workout today had my shins screaming so it’s time for a new pair of running shoes :) I knew it was going to be soon so it isn’t a suprise.

Weigh in - down 3.4 lbs, almost all the way back down to my low for the year….soooo close….then I can move past that mark and on down toward goal. Got in 12 points.

Spunks - hubby has commented numerous times this week about me looking smaller.

Brags - A couple of weeks ago, I pulled out all of the shorts I kept when I packed up stuff last fall. They are all varying sizes. I decided not to care about the size printed on the label and I laid them all out from largest to smallest (the physical size of them, not the number). The biggest pair is too big for me. I have to cinch them really tight to keep them up and they just look silly. The next ones I could barely get over my rump last summer (forget about even buttoning them) and I can get them on, zipped, buttoned now :) There was also a pair of capris my mom gave me last fall that I couldn’t wear at all - they are loose on me now. Yippee.

Ok, That’s all the commenting/posting I’m going to do today lol.

My comments on your comments to my comments…tee hee:

Thanks Debs & Cristina. Let me know how the book is when you’re finished :)

Mandi - yes, that is often one of the first signs that you need new shoes (and no, it doesn’t have to be both shins). A marathon-running gal pal of mine passed along this wisdom to me lol. If you’re putting a lot of miles on your shoes then you will probably need to change them out about every six months anyway. Shin splints can sometimes happen when you push a workout but that defintely wasn’t the case for me today. I had actually planned to do a slower walking pace so I could work on controlling my breathing during the running minutes. So, in my case, I am certain I’m due for new shoes. When I complained to my marathon runner friend eons ago about my shins hurting suddenly while running, the first thing she asked was how old my shoes were lol. “Past six months”, she said, “get new shoes now!” lol. OH and before I forget…AWESOME work on running 2 miles straight! I’m so proud of you!

Note: For those who hadn’t heard, like Leann, I am unable to post comments but still trying to participate however I can.

  2. Hi Blair! 3.4 lbs loss…that’s awesome! Congrats! You are doing great! And great job on the running. A girl I worked with just let me borrow this book she read when she started running a couple of years ago. It’s called The Complete Book of Running for Women. I haven’t started reading it yet but plan too soo. It seems good and easy to read. Maybe by the time I’m done reading it I can attempt the couch to 5k challenge. :)

  3. Blair - so are the shin splints a sign you need new shoes?? I got a new pair of Sacouny (I think that is the spelling) last August and just lately my lower left shin is killing me. I ran 2 miles yesterday at the park (yes I actually ran a whole 2 miles!!!) and I am paying for it today. I thought it was my shoes but my dh thought it might be from amping up my running. Does anyone know how I can tell what it is?? The other side is not hurting so that is why I thought it might not be my shoes.

It is nice to hear from you Blair!!

  4. Those are both possible reasons for shin splints. If you start running too much, too fast, you could definitely get shin splints. But that’s also a sign you need new shoes!

One way to prevent shin splints is to tap your foot a lot while you are sitting. While you are at the computer, at work if you sit at a desk…even in church. You wanna bring your toe up until it feels tight, but is NOT uncomfortable. Tap all the time!! That will cut back on the shin splints! :D
